Release from CVAC Office
THOMASVILLE, NC—The Pfeiffer University women’s lacrosse team has been selected first in this years CVAC preseason coaches poll. In the first ever annual poll, the Falcons pulled out the top spot in one of the tightest preseason polls ever recorded in CVAC history, with the top three tops being separated by one point each. The Lady Falcons finished the 2005 season with a 11-4 & 6-2 CVAC record and won their 2 nd straight CVAC Tournament Championship. The Lady Falcons return 10 of 12 starters which includes 1st team All-CVAC and All-South Region and 2 nd team All-American Brenna Clark. They also return all-conference performers Charlotte Dixon & Audrey Barker. Eight newcomers joined the squad this fall, and will play a large role in Pfeiffer's upcoming season. The Lady Falcons are ranked No. 8 in the country in the US Lacrosse pre-season poll.
The Limestone women’s lacrosse team is also looking to build on a successful 2005 season as the #2 pick in this year’s preseason poll. The Lady Saints finished last season with a 10-6 record, missing the national semifinals, but finished the year ranked No. 10 in the nation. A 6-2 CVAC record was good enough to deliver a three-way tie for first place and their second regular season conference title. The Lady Saints return three players who earned All-CVAC & All-South Region honors last season in midfielders Brooke Nowell, Marissa Pesce , and defender Kristen Black. Black was also named to the second-team All-American Team. The Limestone women's lacrosse team recently earned a No. 5 national ranking in Lacrosse Magazine's 2006 preseason poll.
The Queens University of Charlotte women’s lacrosse team enters into the 2006 campaign with more depth and experience than in the first two to take the third spot in the poll. Queens returns 11 of 12 starters and has added 9 new freshmen to the squad. Queens has yet to have a graduating class and this year is no different with having no seniors and 7 juniors leading the way for the Royals; who also had a piece of the regular season championship with an 11-6 and 6-2 CVAC record. Queens will be led by returning CVAC Player of the Year Kristin Sann and CVAC 1 st team & 2 nd team All-American member Erin Schulz. Also the return of 2004 All-South Region & All-CVAC Team member Jill Durgin, who is coming back from knee surgery, will give added depth to the nationally No. 6 preseason ranked team in the country.
Rounding out the women’s golf preseason poll 4-6 were: Lees-McRae, Belmont Abbey, and St. Andrews respectively.
