Salisbury, NC- The St. Andrews women’s golf team hit the road this week to play a few rounds at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, NC. Tournament host Catawba College brought in 15 teams to play in the two-day, 36-hole event. SAU played consistent golf, with many of the ladies shooting lower during the second round en route to a 15th place finish.

Head Coach Lisa Becka and her team headed to Salisbury on Sunday to start off the event with a practice round to help the ladies get a feel for the layout of the course. With no combined finishes under par, the 5,998 yard course at the Salisbury Country Club proved to be a challenging one.

Taking the top three finishes were Newberry College-1, Carson-Newman College-2, and Tusculum College-3. Individually, Lindsay McGetrick of NC State shot +1 to take first place, with Julia Daneshfar of Newberry carding a +2 for a second place finish. Tying for third, Kimesha Anthony of CSU and Melanie Manis of Carson-Newman each shot a 148 (+4).

While at the event, SAU saw many familiar faces as the ladies of Queens University of Charlotte, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, Coker College, and Belmont Abbey College were also playing at the Invitational. Representing Conference Carolinas, the aforementioned teams finished 5th, 10th, 11th, 13th, and 14th respectively. Queens University senior Louise Sjoberg and Pfeiffer University sophomore Steph Peareth tied for a 7th place finish, building a solid reputation for the women of Conference Carolinas.

Sophomore Sadiyya Gillespie (Lindenwold, NJ) finished as a part of a three-way tie for 30th out of 85 competitors. Keeping a level head throughout the event, Gillespie went 81-82 for a two-day total of 163. Carding 89-87/176, Adrienne Whitfield (Lexington, NC) was one of three Knights to improve their play during the second round. Grand Rapids, MI, native Morgan Clay also decided to better her play on day two and did just that. Clay shot 94-91/219, improving by three strokes.

Christina Agosto (Mesa, AZ) almost pulled out the same score during both rounds, but dropped one putt just shy of the hole during the second round and turned in scores of 109-110/219. Showing tremendous improvement and concentration, Dara Legard (South Bend, IN) carded a 119 on Monday and teed off this morning determined to improve. Tightening her game by an impressive 15 strokes, Legard carded a 104 this afternoon for a two-day total of 223.

The Patsy Rendleman Invitational marks the last regularly scheduled event for SAU women’s golf for the fall of 2011. Follow the ladies on the St. Andrews website to find out more information about the spring 2012 schedule.
