LITTLE RIVER, S.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s golf team had four golfers compete in the 2008 Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University at the River Hills Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Knights finished in 15th place after carding totals of 456 on Monday and 414 on Tuesday for a 36-hole sum of 870. SAPC knocked 87 strokes off its first tournament total of the year (957 total at the Anderson University Invitational).
The sophomore duo of Amy Driggers (Wallace, S.C.) and Mariann Stark (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Royal Blue & White with totals of 181 and 207, respectively. Driggers opened the tourney with a 92 and then posted the only round under 90 for the Knights with an 89 on the 5,864-yard, par-72 layout. Stark rebounded from an opening 110 in her first competitive round of the year with a 97 in the final round.
Seniors Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) and Tiffany Capone (Jacksonville, N.C.), who are both dual sport athletes at St. Andrews, each improved drastically in their second rounds. Wright signed scorecards of 120 and 110 for a two-day total of 230 while Capone finished with a 134-118—252.
The St. Andrews women’s golf team concludes play for the fall season at the Conference Carolinas Fall Preview hosted by Pfeiffer University at The Tillery Tradition in Mt. Gilead, N.C. on Monday & Tuesday, October 20-21.
