Final Women's Results

CLEMMONS, N.C.—Sophomore Alessandra Maurtua (Lima, Peru), who was named to the women’s golf All-CVAC First Team on Sunday, was the 2007 CVAC individual medalist runner-up helping St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a fourth place finish in the CVAC Championships at the Salem Glen Golf & Country Club.

Maurtua, who earns All-CVAC First Team honors for the second consecutive year, fired rounds of 74, 75, and 73 at the 5,948-yard, par-71 layout to finish second out of 34 golfers. Maurtua’s runner-up showing was her sixth top-5 finish of the 2006-07 season and fourth second place showing.

The Lady Knights, who were picked seventh in the pre-season CVAC coaches poll, surprised the tournament with a fourth place result out of seven teams. SAPC improved each of the three days and carded the third lowest team total in Tuesday’s final round to move into fourth place. St. Andrews logged daily totals o 352, 343, and 325 to finish with 1,020 strokes and ahead of conference rivals Queens University of Charlotte, Mount Olive College, and Limestone College.

Senior Andrea Johnston (Chapel Hill, N.C.) concluded her four year playing career at St. Andrews with another solid performance finishing 20th with an 83-86-81—250. Johnston is the only Lady Knight to play on the SAPC women’s golf team all four years since the program was established in 2003.

Junior Laura Correia (Centerville, Mass.) signed rounds of 93-86-98—277 for St. Andrews to finish tied for 26th. The final two Knights made huge improvements in their final rounds of the season to tie each other in 30th place. Junior Sally McDaniel (Stanley, N.C.) posted a 102-98-86 while freshman Jessica Greenway (Laurinburg, N.C.) turned in a 105-96-85.
