St. Andrews women's golf sits in 6th place after Day 1 of Spring Invite

Day One Results

VASS, N.C.—Northwood University (Mich.) and Mount Olive College women’s golf teams are currently tied for first place midway through the Fourth Annual St. Andrews Spring Invitational at the Woodlake Resort & Golf Club after Monday’s first round.

The Timberwolves and Trojans hold a three stroke lead on Queens University of Charlotte after both teams shot an opening 352 on Monday. The Royals sit in third with a 355. The University of Findlay is fourth with a 370 and Anderson University is just behind in fifth posting a 371. Host St. Andrews Presbyterian College is sixth with a score of 381 and Presbyterian College rounds out the field in seventh with a 398.

Mount Olive’s Kristin Moberg maintains the overnight lead after firing a nine-over par 81 on the 5,820-yard, par-72 Palmer Course layout. Moberg has a one shot advantage over Northwood’s Jamie Long, who is in sole possession of second with an 82. Kristen Cometto (Presbyterian) sits four strokes back with an 85 while Hillary Armel (Queens) is fourth signing an 86. Sophomore Alessandra Maurtua (St. Andrews) and Sophie Dembroski (Anderson) are tied for fifth each carding an 87.

Maurtua paces the Lady Knights after shooting nine-hole scores of 44 and 43 for the 87 stroke total. Senior Andrea Johnston follows for St. Andrews with a 94 and junior Laura Correia posted a 97. Rounding out play for the hosts were junior Sally McDaniel (103) and freshman Jessica Greenway (116).

The final round of the 2007 St. Andrews Spring Invite will be played on Tuesday with players teeing off at 9:00 a.m.
