THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Alessandra Maurtua, a sophomore from St. Andrews Presbyterian College, has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) Women’s Golfer of the Month for October 2006.
Maurtua broke the St. Andrews women's golf program record for tournament low 18-hole and 36-hole totals this past month as she posted a 77.5 scoring average in six competitive rounds.
Maurtua tied for first individually at the Tusculum Fall Classic with a school record 76-72-148 total in 47 golfer event. Maurtua’s record-setting even-par 72 on Tuesday helped the Knights to a team record total of 334.
The Lima, Peru native then finished tied for 26th out of 92 golfers in the Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate after posting a pair of nine-over 81's. Maurtua concluded her fall season with her third top-10 of the fall with a fifth place finish out of 60 golfers at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. Mautua signed rounds of 78 and 77 to once again lead the Knights.
