LAURINBURG, NC—Howard Reichner, St. Andrews Presbyterian College Athletic Director, has announced the hiring of James E. Robertson as the Knights’ new head men’s and women’s golf coach effective immediately.
“ St. Andrews Presbyterian College is most fortunate to have such an experienced player, coach, and teacher heading our golf program,” said Reichner. “We welcome Coach Robertson to our St. Andrews Athletics team and look forward with excitement to the development of our golf program.”
Robertson brings a strong resume to the Knights Athletic Department that includes numerous years of coaching experience at all levels of the game of golf including collegiate, professional, and amateur ranks.
“I look forward to building a program from my background that will produce successful careers for our athletes in all areas of golf and/or any profession they pursue after college,” said Robertson. “If they want a future in golf, I am confident I can help get them there.”
Prior to coming to SAPC, Robertson worked as a consultant for the University of Nebraska. Robertson consulted Nebraska is several areas including instructing a successful coaching course, applying a productive strength and conditions program, and increasing academic performance and achievement for the university.
Robertson also spent the past year as the assistant women’s golf coach for Missouri Sate University. Robertson has also worked in different capacities with the athletic programs at multiple colleges including Drury, Evangel, Drake, Florida Gulf Coast, Auburn, Missouri, and Nebraska.
Robertson has worked as, and is currently, a credentialed Tour Instructor for more than 20 years. He has worked with players on the PGA, LPGA, Canadian, Nationwide, and Champions Tours. Robertson got his start as the president of the sports training group of Sports Enhancement Associates (SEA) which included teaching for the Florida Golf Academy. Robertson has taught instructional courses for the PGA of America and as a member of the staff for the Taylor Made golf equipment company.
“I look forward to developing our players in all areas of the golf game including the swing, mental approach, and playing strategy,” concluded Robertson.
Along with his coaching duties, Robertson will also serve as an instructor at St. Andrews. Robertson has teaching experience at several institutions including The College of The Ozarks, Drury University, The University of Pakistan, University of Nebraska, and The Forest Institute of Professional Psychology.
Robertson earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Education at Missouri State University before obtaining a Masters degree in Marketing from Central Missouri State University. He has worked on a doctoral degree at the University of Arkansas.
James is the proud parent of three daughters (Kellie, Sarah, and Amanda) and will reside in Laurinburg.
