Wingate wins rain shortened SAPC Women's Spring Invite

VASS, NC—Martina Moo Young shot a five-over par 77 to take a one-stroke victory in the 26-player women’s tournament of the 2006 St. Andrews Spring Invitational at the Palmer Course of the Woodlake Country Club which helped Wingate University to the team victory with a 341 total.

Moo Young held a slim one-stoke lead over Rachel Spurs (Lincoln Memorial) and Lindsey Snyder (Mount Olive) heading into Tuesday’s final round before it was washed out. The three leaders were the only players to shoot under 80 on the 5,853-yard, par-72 Palmer layout.

Beth Kirkham (Wingate) and Kate Somek (Mount Olive) shot 18-hole totals of 80 and 82, respectively, to round out the top-five.

The Lady Bulldogs took the four-shot victory over second place Mount Olive (345). The University of Findlay (357) grabbed third, Lincoln Memorial (368) finished fourth and Hollins (579) was fifth.

Freshman Alessandra Maurtua (Lima, Peru) led the host Knights individuals with an 88. Sophomore Sally McDaniel (Stanley, NC) followed with a 99.

St. Andrews will compete in the Agnes-McAmis Memorial Tournament hosted by Tusculum College at the Link Hills Country Club in Greenville, Tennessee, on Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4.
