Three Knights golfers compete at Old North State

BADIN, NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s golf team had three individuals compete at the 2006 Pfeiffer/Old North State Invitational at the Old North State Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Freshman Alessandra Maurtura (Lima, Peru) led the Knights with a sixth place finish in the 56-golfer field. Maurtura carded rounds of 79 and 83 on the 5,995-yard, par-72 layout. Maurtura’s 79 was a season low-round.

Junior Andrea Johnston (Chapel Hill, NC) finished in a four-way tie for 34th place after firing an 87-93-180. Sophomore Sally McDaniel (Stanley, NC) completed the Knights play with a 91-108-199 scorecard. McDaniel’s 91 was also a season best.

Catawba College broke an overnight tie with host Pfeiffer, with a tournament-best 321 on Tuesday to win the team title by seven. Catawba finished with a two-day total of 651, six strokes ahead of the Lady Falcons.

Jordan Craig (Wake Forest) won a sudden-death playoff against Paige Haverty (Catawba) for the individual medalist honors. Both Craig and Haverty shot five-over par 149’s.

The Knights women’s golf team next hits the links at the Upstate College Classic (hosted by Limestone) in Gaffney, SC, on March 6-7.
