KIAWAH ISLAND, SC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s golf team had three individuals compete at the 2006 Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at the Cougar Point Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.

Freshman Alessandra Maurtura (Lima, Peru) led the Knights with rounds of 87 and 89 on the 5,827-yard, par-72 layout. Maurtura’s total of 176 in her first collegiate tournament was good for a five-way tie for 36th place out of 89 golfers.

Junior Andrea Johnston (Chapel Hill, NC) carded a 98-96-194 to finish tied for 71st. Sophomore Sally McDaniel (Stanley, NC) completed the Knights play with a 102-112-214 scorecard.

Nova Southeastern placed five players in the top-10 to win the team title. The Sharks won the two-day, 36-hole event with a team score of 616, 25 stokes ahead of second place Central Arkansas.

Central Arkansas’ Christina Lecuyer captured the medalist honors firing a 77-74-151 to edge Nova Southeastern duo of Lina Bjorklund and Andrea Maldonado by one stoke.

The Knights next hit the links at the Lady Falcon Invitational (hosted by Pfeiffer University) on Monday and Tuesday, February 20-21. The Lady Falcon Invite will be played on the Old North State Club in Badin, NC.
