Tough Run for the Knights

Charleston, SC- The SAU women’s cross country team woke up in Charleston, SC this morning and made their way to the Citadel for the annual Bulldog Invitational. With the starting gun going off at 8:00 AM, the ladies started their Saturday rather early. Finishing in 6 th place in the D-II rankings, the Knights gave it their all as they ran beside D-I harriers and competed against several tough D-II teams.

Freshman Hannah Hinrichsmeyer (Sueltzal, Germany) snagged the number 24 spot with a time of 23:04.87, the first Knight to cross the finish line. Senior Anna Egeln (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) finished the 5k 30 seconds after Hinrichsmeyer. Columbia City, IN native Karlee Arnold took the third place spot for the Knights when she was the 34th runner to finish the race.

Taking the last three finishes for the Knights were Francoise Douala (Baltimore, MD), Sara Hackney (Como, NC), and Reba Maroldt (Wilmington, NC), who finished 40th, 41st, and 54th respectively; with Douala and Hackney a mere 10 seconds apart.
