SAPC women's cross country finishes sixth at Wingate

Women's 6k results

WINGATE, N.C.—Junior Alyson Trovato (Cedar Park, Texas) was the top Conference Carolinas finisher and sophomore Lauren Crabb (Kalamazoo, Mich.) posted a PR in a 6k race as the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s cross country team finished sixth out of 15 teams in the 2007 Wingate Invitational on Saturday morning.

Trovato’s blazing time of 24:57 was good for sixth place out 114 runners. Trovato was the fastest Conference Carolinas harrier and the second fastest Southeast Region entrant. Trovato finished one minute and 37 seconds behind the race winner.

No. 19 nationally ranked Alabama-Huntsville won the team competition with an impressive 20 points. SAPC concluded in sixth place with 172 points.

Senior Veronica Gobeyn (Mullins, S.C.) finished second for the Lady Knights with a top-20 result. Gobeyn crossed the finish line in 18th place with a time of 26:08.

Freshmen Marie Hibbard (Statesville, N.C.) and Desiree Cavazos (Fayetteville, N.C.) also had strong showing for St. Andrews in their first ever extended 6k collegiate race. Hibbard stopped the clock in 38th place with a time of 27:18 while Cavazos ended up 46th with a speed of 27:45.

Sophomore Bonnie MacDonald (Carthage, N.C.) rounded out the Knights top-five scoring runners at 30:15.

Crabb cut over four minutes off her personal best 6k time to help strengthen St. Andrews depth. Crabb ended the race with a time of 30:51. Freshman Danielle Martin (Newport, N.C.) wrapped up the endurance race for the Knights at 31:05.

St. Andrews will have two weeks to prepare for The Citadel Invitational at James Island County Park in Charleston, S.C. on Saturday, September 29th. The women are scheduled to take off at 9:45 a.m.
