LAURINBURG, N.C.—For the fourth consecutive year the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s cross country team was named an NCAA Division II All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday.
The Lady Knights harriers accomplished this amazing goal for the fourth straight year after posting a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.607.
“What an incredible accomplishment for the women’s team,” said fifth year head coach Gary Aycock. “They have proven their ability once again to balance the responsibilities of a St. Andrews student-athlete.”
The USTFCCCA honored 91 D-II women’s cross country programs with All-Academic Team honors. For schools to qualify, the student-athletes on their NCAA eligibility list must have a group cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Individually, four different Lady Knights were awarded All-Academic honors including junior Tessa Franz (Warren, Ore.), junior Veronica Gobeyn (Mullins, S.C.), sophomore Alyson Trovato (Cedar Park, Texas), and sophomore Leah Nicholson (Hendersonville, N.C.).
St. Andrews’ team cumulative GPA of 3.607 is the 16th highest nationally for 2006.
“I think their recognition speaks volumes about their commitment to the classroom and the cross country discipline. It is truly a pleasure to work with such an awesome group of young ladies!” concluded Aycock.
