Women’s
XC Falters in CVAC Tournament

31, 2003
ANDERSON,
SC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian
College women’s cross country team finished in a tie for
sixth out of eight teams in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics
Conference tournament hosted by Anderson on Friday morning with
140 points.
Kelly Chaplin
led the way for the Knights with a 20:28 time on the 5K path at the
Pine Lake Golf Course. With her third place finish Chaplin has been
in the top ten of all seven races she has completed in this year.
Jessica
Loud finished 17th for St. Andrews stopping the clock at 22:22 while
Jammie Swan followed in 35th at 23:48. Megan Mulligan (25:03), Katie
Carter (25:53), and Casey Kallenberg (25:58) finished the scoring
for the Knights.
Lees-McRae
swept the team titles after the women’s team won their race
with 40 points. Beth Martin, an individual from Mount Olive, won
the race with a 19:39 time followed by Leslie Thurman of Lees-McRae
at 20:02.
St. Andrews
will compete in the NCAA Regional on Saturday, November 8th in Cary,
NC.

Chaplin Named CVAC 2-Time Women's CC Runner of the Week

THOMASVILLE,
NC—Kelly
Chaplin of St. Andrews Presbyterian College has been selected as
the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC)
women’s cross country Runner of the Week for the second week
this season. Sophomore Kelly Chaplin continued her dominate running
this week winning the Coker Invitational. The win was Kelly’s
first of her college career. Chaplin has finished in the top ten
of all six races she has raced in this year. Kelly’s finish
over two Coker runners secured the first place victory for the
Knights, which was also the first of the year.

Knights
Runners Sweep Victories at Coker
October

HARTSVILLE,
SC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian
College women and men’s cross-country teams took home both
first place trophies from the Coker Invitational on Saturday.
The St.
Andrews women, ranked 10th in the Southeast Region of NCAA Division-II,
won its first race of the year coming in first ahead of Coker and
Newberry.
Sophomore
Kelly Chaplin won her first collegiate race for the Knights, finishing
the 5000-meter course in 19:51. Chaplin has finished in the top ten
of all six races she has competed in this year.
Freshmen
Jessica Loud and Jammie Swan, and senior Katie Carter finished third
through fifth for the Knights, respectively, with times of 22:16,
23:19, and 23:32. Junior Casey Kallenberg finished eighth (24:04)
while senior Megan Mulligan finished 10th (24:51).
The Knights
do not compete again until the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference
Tournament on October 31st. Anderson College will host the tourney.

THOMASVILLE,
NC—Kelly
Chaplin of St. Andrews Presbyterian College has been
selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia
Athletics Conference (CVAC) women’s cross country
Runner of the Week. Sophomore runner Kelly Chaplin
continued her dominating running this week at the
Great American Cross Festival as she finished seventh
out of 122 runners with a 20:53 time in the 5K race.
Chaplin has finished in the top ten of all four races
she has participated in this year. The Middlesex,
VT native distanced herself from all other CVAC runners
in the big event including entrants from Anderson
College, Queens University of Charlotte, Barton College,
and Pfeiffer University.

Knights
Runners Finish 10th at Wingate

20, 2003
WINGATE,
NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian
College women’s cross-country team finished 10th out of
15 teams at the Wingate University Cross Country Invitational
on Saturday.
In the
women’s 5K-race Kelly Chaplin paced the Knights with a time
of 20:26 for a seventh place finish out of 96 runners. St. Andrew’s
Jessica Loud and Jammie Swan each broke into the top 50 with times
of 23:18 and 23:32, respectively. Finishing the running for the Knights
were Casey Kallenberg (25:07), Katie Carter (25:17), and Megan Mulligan
(26:33).
Mars Hill
swept the day winning both the women and men’s race. The Mountain
Lions women's team had three runners finish in the top ten including
Kate Prichard (19:43) who won the race.
The Knights
will compete next at the Great American Cross Country Festival in
Cary, NC on Friday. The women take begin at 2:15 p.m.

Regionally
Ranked Women Finish Fourth at Pembroke

PEMBROKE,
NC—The
St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s cross country team
finished fourth with 81 points in the UNC Pembroke Invitational
on Saturday morning. Wingate took the team title with 28 points
and three runners in the top ten. Individual Allie Kassens won
with a time of 19:16 in the five-kilometer race.
The Knights
are having an outstanding season as they are currently ranked ninth
in the Southeast region of NCAA Division-II. It is the highest ranking
ever attained for the women’s cross country team.
Sophomore
Kelly Chaplin improved on her best time pacing the Knights with a
fourth place finish out of 46 runners with a 20:04 time (only 48
seconds behind Kassens). Jessica Loud and Jamie Swan had top 20 finishes
with times of 22:31 and 22:44, respectively. Casey Kallenberg, Katie
Carter, and Megan Mulligan finished out the running order for the
Knights. All runners improved on their times from last weeks Elon/High
Point Invitational.
After two
races the women have a .500 record (8-8 overall and 2-2 against CVAC
schools).
The Knights
will travel to Wingate next Saturday for the Wingate Invitational
with the women starting at 9:00 a.m.

Chaplin
Helps St. Andrews to Solid Finish

Greensboro,
NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian
College women’s cross country team finished a surprising
sixth out of 12 division II and III schools in the Elon/High
Point Invitational on Saturday. East Carolina University won
the overall race while Carson-Newman won the non-Division I portion.
Sophomore
Kelly Chaplin provided the big boost for the Knights, finishing ninth
out of 118 runners with a time of 20:20:92. Chaplin finished less
than 38 seconds behind the race medallist Jemissa Hess from High
Point University. Chaplin’s ninth place result marked her first
collegiate top ten finish.
SAPC other
runners included Jammie Swan (67th) at 23:50, Jessica Loud (69th)
at 23:59, Casey Kallenberg (79th) at 24:38, Katie Carter (83rd) at
24:56, and Megan Mulligan (93rd) at 25:53.
All four
upperclassmen (Chaplin, Kallenberg, Carter, and Mulligan) had faster
times than in any 2002 race.
St. Andrews
next steps onto a course at the UNC Pembroke Invitational in Lumberton,
NC at 10:15 am Saturday.
