SAU Trio Pushes Knights Basketball

Laurinburg, NC- SAU women’s basketball had a tough fight this evening as they hosted the Bulldogs of Barton College. Barton came out strong and established a lead that they held throughout the game, leaving the Knights to fight to close the gap. Unable to slow the fast-paced Bulldog offense, the Knights fell to 0-8 in Conference Carolinas after tonight’s 90-42 loss.

Beneé Norton (Atlanta, GA) and Brittany Roberts (Concord, NC) led St. Andrews with 10 points each. Junior Kimayah Fulcher (New Bern, NC) trailed Norton and Roberts with eight total points. These ladies found the basket from all over the court. Norton put up 80% of her points from the paint, while Roberts sunk the only two three-pointers of the game for SAU. Fulcher was active at the line this evening as she shot 100% (4-4) at the foul line, with Norton also going 100% by sinking both of her free throws.

As a squad, the ladies shot 80% (12-15) from the line tonight as they did everything they could to get to the basket and ended up drawing numerous fouls. The Knights tried to get around the Bulldogs to rebound, but had a difficult time keeping up with the speed and agility shown by Barton. SAU grabbed 37 total rebounds, 25 of which took away second-chance shots from the Lady Bulldogs. Roberts snagged eight rebounds, with Norton and Fulcher pulling down six and five respectively.

The Knights will host the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Saturday, January 25, at 2:00 PM at Harris Court. Be sure to claim your seat on Saturday afternoon to enjoy an afternoon of St. Andrews Knights basketball.
