Roberts Earns Season High 28 Points at Mount Olive

Mount Olive, NC – Brittany Roberts (Concord, NC) played hard for St. Andrews University this evening as the Knight traveled to Mount Olive, NC, to take on the Trojans of Mount Olive College. Roberts and her teammates worked until the end, but were never able to close the gap created by the Trojans; falling to 0-6 in conference play after tonight’s 98-60 loss for SAU.

Roberts, who scored 22 of her 28 points in the second half, led the Knights’ offense as the ladies faced a high scoring Trojans squad.

St. Andrews used Beneé Norton’s (Atlanta, GA) three-pointer and a pair of free throws by Roberts to pull the score to 8-5 two minutes into the contest. Mount Olive answered with a 9-2 run for its first double-digit lead of the night. MOC’s Andrea Jones hit three 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the game and her transition layup off of Tamara Nesmith’s outlet pass gave Mount Olive a 26-9 lead with 10:29 left in the first half.

Gabby Griffin helped spark Mount Olive to a 10-2 run to end the first half, including a defensive rebound after one of her shoes came off; leaving the Knights at a 52-21 deficit at the half.

Roberts scored six straight points for SAU, but Mount Olive built the lead to 77-36 with 10:06 left as Matison Hall’s ball fake led to a transition layup. Helping push the Knights, Norton scored 10 points, while Kimayah Fulcher (New Bern, NC) added nine points.

The Ladies of St. Andrews basketball will head to Converse College on Saturday, January 21, where the Knights will play the Valkyries at 3:00 PM.
