Crusaders Gallop by Knights

Laurinburg, NC- Junior Beneé Norton (Atlanta, GA) took the lead for the Knights’ offense this afternoon; driving to the hoop to earn 12 points for SAU women’s basketball after the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College made the drive down Highway 74 to challenge the Knights at Harris Court. The ladies of St. Andrews came back from a slow start and got themselves back in the game, but were unable to restrain the Crusaders in the second half as Belmont Abbey out-scored St. Andrews 72-37.

Norton shot 100% from the foul line by sinking all six of her free-throws. She also made three short-range baskets and grabbed six rebounds for the Knights. Following Norton in the scorebook, Brittany Roberts (Concord, NC) posted nine total points, including one three-pointer, two jumpers from around the lane, and two free-throws (2-2, FTA-FTM). Karin Law (Washington, DC) and Rebecca Bryant (Cincinnati, OH) each put up five points for the Knights as they tried to close the gap created by the Crusaders.

Roberts snagged the team high of nine rebounds, seven of which were defensive; taking away numerous second-chance shots from Belmont Abbey. As a team, the ladies got their hands on 32 rebounds, 11 offensive and 21 defensive.

The squad put their practice into play as they went 80% at the foul line this afternoon.

The Knights will travel to Mount Olive, NC, on Wednesday, January 18, to take on the Mount Olive College Trojans at 5:30 PM. Look for live stats and video on the St. Andrews University Athletic webpage to keep up with the Knights on Wednesday.
