Knights Run with Royals at Harris Court

Laurinburg, NC- Women’s basketball saw a close game tonight as they hosted the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte. The Conference Carolinas rival proved to be too much for the Knights in the end, but the ladies of SAU never gave up. With a final score of 87-62, the Knights moved to 0-2 in conference play after getting a little too far behind the Royals.

Junior Kimayah Fulcher (New Bern, NC) led the Knights (0-9 Overall, 0-2 Conference) with 12 points, while three other teammates also contributed double-digit points. Rachel Hewitt (Kokomo, IN), Brittany Roberts (Concord, NC), and Beneé Norton (Atlanta, GA) all contributed 10 points or more for St. Andrews; Hewitt and Roberts each put up 11 with Norton adding 10. Freshman Karin Law (Washington, DC) worked hard for SAU and posted eight points, accompanied by Tyler Knight (Greenville, NC) who found the basket and scored seven points.

Fulcher also took charge for the Knights’ defense. She posted under the hoop and grabbed seven defensive rebounds and one offensive, for a total of eight. Roberts did her fair share down low as well by snagging six rebounds, five being defensive. The squad managed to earn three blocks this evening as they put up a solid defense against the Royals (3-8, 1-2).

Overall, the ladies shot 57.1% from the line, with Fulcher and Hewitt both shooting 100% from the foul line. The Knights found the basket eight times from behind the arc, where the Royals only hit two three-pointers.

SAU women’s basketball will hit the road on Saturday as they travel to Tigerville, SC. The Knights will be hosted by the Crusaders of North Greenville University for yet another Conference Carolinas matchup.
