Hewitt Leads Knights in Conference Opener

Laurinburg, NC – The women of St. Andrews basketball had a tough night as they hosted the Falcons of Pfeiffer University for the first Conference Carolinas matchup of the season. The Knights could not restrain the Falcons as SAU finished the game with a 97-43 loss, taking the squad to 0-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Rachel Hewitt (Kokomo, IN) earned the leading scorer spot for SAU tonight as she posted 14 points for the Knights. Hewitt put up two from behind the arc, while also finding the basket four times from short-range. Rebecca Bryant (Cincinnati, OH) and Beneé Norton (Atlanta, GA) worked for the Knights by adding eight points each.

Concord, NC, native Brittany Roberts took charge down low and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Knights. Roberts also contributed at the foul line by sinking five free-throws; while teammate Norton shot 80% from the line after going 4-5 (FTM-FTA).

The Knights will host the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday, January 5. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM at Harris Court on the campus of St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC.
