Knights Host Columbia College for Home Opener

Laurinburg, NC- Harris Court saw an exciting evening of basketball last night, kicked-off by the women as they hosted the Koalas of Columbia College (Columbia, SC). The Knights fought until the end, but had a hard time closing the gap after Columbia pulled ahead. With a final score of 91-63, the Knights dropped their home opener after a thrilling game of women’s basketball.

Sophomore Rachel Hewitt (Kokomo, IN) knocked down 50% of her shots from the field and went 0.750 at the line as she earned the team’s Offensive Player of the Game award last night. Hewitt hit two from behind the arc, while also driving to the basket to post points for the Knights.

With 16 total points, Rebecca Bryant (Cincinnati, OH) shot her way to the leading scorer position for SAU. Bryant found the hoop six times; sending up three scoring shots from long range. Greenville, NC, native Tyler Knight boasted four steals and four assists on top of her own 12 points. Kimayah Fulcher (New Bern, NC) and Brittany Roberts (Concord, NC) each posted nine points for the ‘Drew as the ladies tried to catch up to Columbia.

Benee Norton, a junior from Atlanta, GA, was selected as the team’s Defensive Player of the Game after earning several stats in her brief time on the court. After playing a little less than 20:00 minutes, Norton added four points, one offensive rebound, and four defensive rebounds for the Knights. Fulcher also contributed to the Knights’ defense with seven defensive rebounds and by blocking a shot taken by the Koalas.

The Knights are headed to the South Carolina coast this weekend to play Coastal Carolina University. The ladies will take on the Chanticleers at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19.
