Gasque's Team Highs Keep SAPC Close

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Natia Gasque ended her sophomore season strong with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, giving her the team high total points and blocks in the loss against Mount Olive College.

Gasque dished her first block out to Brittany Miller with 19:25 on the clock. Megan Lee scored 5 points for the Knights by swishing two free throws and a three point back-to-back with 17:58 left on the clock. Gasque and Brittany Roberts kept the Knights within three points with two jumpers from each.

Mount Olive (19-7 overall, 16-4 Conference Carolinas) led by only four points with 14 minutes left in the first half, but Jones scored 15 points during a 22-6 run to give the Trojans a 39-19 lead with 9:11 remaining. Mount Olive reached the 60-point mark with just under five minutes remaining and the Trojans led 70-24 at halftime.

Natia Gasque led St. Andrews with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Lee added 11 points as she and Gasque combined to hit 9-of-11 free throws. Gasque was also 9-for-15 from the field. Rachel Hewitt dished out five assists for the Knights. Saturday’s game marked the conclusion of the Knights’ season.

Alyssa Luebs scored a career-high 18 points for the Trojans and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for her third collegiate double-double. Miller added 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting to with six rebounds, while Davis finished with 10 points, four assists and four steals. McGee dished out a season-high eight assists, while Jasmine McDonald added a career-high seven assists.

Tonight’s game was the final regular season game for both St. Andrews and Mount Olive. The Conference Carolinas Tournament will start Tuesday March 1, 2011 at the higher seeds court 7:00 PM.

The championship game is slated for next Sunday, with the winner advancing to the Southeast Regional of the 2011 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship.
