ANDERSON, S.C.—Junior guard Desiree Jones (Tulsa, Okla.) scored a season-high 22 points including a season-best four 3-pointers but visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College could not overcome an ice cold first half as No. 17 nationally ranked Anderson University posted a 78-51 Conference Carolinas women’s basketball victory on Saturday afternoon in the Abney Center.

The Lady Trojans, who are also ranked No. 6 in the East Region, shot 51.7-percent in the first half to take a commanding 43-13 lead at halftime en route to their 13th straight victory. Anderson boasts a 20-2 overall record and a 14-1 mark in league play while remaining perfect in 2008. The Lady Knights fell to 5-17 and 4-11.

Jones was the game’s leading scorer by drilling 9-of-12 shots including a game-high four three-pointers. Senior guard Erika Thompson (Kalamazoo, Mich.) added 14 points and a game-high five assists for the Knights.

Anderson pulled away to the 30-point lead at halftime by converting on 15-of-29 (51.7%) field goals and 9-of-13 (69.2%) free throws while St. Andrews was held to 6-of-23 (26.1%) shooting from the floor and 1-of-4 (25%) on free throws.

The Knights out scored the Trojans 38-35 in the second half behind the offensive attack of Jones, but the damage was already done and Anderson cruised to the 27-point victory.

AU won the battle of the boards, 37-31, and made 16 steals on 26 SAPC turnovers.

Knights’ freshman Jacquelyn Adcock (Damascus, Md.) led rebounders by pulling down a game-high six boards. Freshman Kristin Zipkin (Canton, Ga.) chipped in with six points.

A trio of Trojans reached double digits in scoring including 15 points by senior Latrice Thomas (Graniteville, S.C.), 11 by junior Keana Boyd (Newberry, S.C.), and 10 by senior Nikki Anthony (Pickens, S.C.).

St. Andrews next visits league foe Anderson University (Anderson, S.C.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. while Belmont Abbey entertains conference rival Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
