No. 11 Northern Kentucky defeats St. Andrews

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.—Senior forward Danielle Norman (Bronx, N.Y.) posted her second straight double-double in the Travel America Classic for visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College but host and No. 11 nationally ranked Northern Kentucky University posted the 100-50 NCAA Division II women’s basketball victory on Tuesday night.

The Norse won their fifth straight game to improve to 7-1 on the season while the Lady Knights head into the holiday break with a 1-6 overall ledger. St. Andrews will start the 2008 portion of its schedule on Thursday, January 3 at home against non-conference local rival UNC Pembroke. First-tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.

Northern Kentucky built a 49-21 lead at halftime by converting on 6-of-9 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes. The Norse continued to extend their lead in the second half shooting 46.1-percent for the game and controlling the glass out-rebounding the Knights 53-40. SAPC only shot 27.0% while turning the ball over more, 23-10.

The Norse never trailed and an early three-pointer by junior Desiree Jones (Tulsa, Okla.) evened the contest at 3-3, which ended up being the only tie of the night.

Norman, who is averaging a double-double for the Knights with 14.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, logged her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and game-high 14 rebounds.

Senior Erika Thompson (Kalamazoo, Mich.) bucketed nine points while Jones and freshman Jacquelyn Adcock (Damascus, Md.) chipped in with six points apiece. Senior Jessy Perkins (Goldsboro, N.C.) was perfect from the field for five points.

Senior April Johnson (McColl, S.C.) had a team-high four blocked shots while Johnson and Perkins each grabbed four rebounds. Thompson drilled two of the Knights four 3-pointers.

Six different Norse players scored in double-digits with Jessie Slack just missing a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Angela Healy also had a double-double with team-highs of 18 points and 11 boards.
