INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team is currently ranked No. 3 in the first NCAA Division II East Region Poll released by the Women’s Basketball Committee on Wednesday after posting a 9-2 in-region record midway through the current season.
The Lady Knights are off to their best start in the programs D-II era after 14 games with a 10-4 overall record. SAPC also sits in a tie for third place in the CVAC standings with 11 conference games left boasting a 7-2 league ledger.
St. Andrews currently ranks nationally in three defensive categories (through games Jan. 21) out of 294 colleges that sponsor D-II women’s basketball. The Lady Knights are No. 14 nationally in rebounding margin, grabbing 8.4 more boards than their opponents. SAPC is averaging 41.9 rebounds/game compared to 33.5 boards/game by their foes. The Knights are also ranked No. 18 nationally in defensive field-goal percentage, holding rivals to 35.1% shooting. Finally, St. Andrews is also ranked No. 40 nationally in scoring defense, limiting opponents to just 57.9 points/game.
The Lady Knights will visit CVAC foe Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before returning home and entertaining CVAC rival Anderson University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee releases a top-10 region poll for each of the eight regions. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through March 1.
