MISENHEIMER, N.C.—Junior Danielle Norman (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the visiting Lady Knights, but host Pfeiffer University rallied from a double-digit first half deficit to defeat St. Andrews Presbyterian College 79-74 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball action on Saturday night.
The Lady Falcons were led by Kalee Smith's 19 points as Pfeiffer improved to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the CVAC. Also scoring in double-digits for the Falcons was Raven Truslow with 16 and Lauren Brittingham with 15.
St. Andrews, who fell to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the CVAC, saw a double-double from sophomore April Johnson (McColl, S.C.) with 14 points and 10 boards. Junior Erika Thompson (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and senior Ashley Mitchell (Washington, D.C.) had 13 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Marquita Prichard (Havelock, N.C.) contributed eight points and six boards for the visitors.
SAPC dominated the boards, 44-27, but lost the game by committing 23 turnovers on 14 Pfeiffer steals that led to 20 PU points. Both teams shot 46-percent from the field. The Knights led by 11 (23-12) in the first half but Pfeiffer rallied and took their largest lead of nine (70-61) with 3:47 left. St. Andrews pulled to within two twice in the final 30 seconds but the Falcons held on for the 5-point victory.
Both teams are tied for third in the CVAC standings.
St. Andrews will visit local rival UNC-Pembroke in non-conference action on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
