Lady Knights basketball rolls past Limestone

LAURINBURG, N.C.Junior forward Danielle Norman (Bronx, N.C.) just missed her second double-double of the season with team-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds, leading the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team to an 80-64 CVAC win against Limestone College on Monday night in Harris Court.

The Lady Knights, who remain perfect on the season at home (4-0), continue their most successful NCAA Division II start with a 7-2 overall record. SAPC sits in second place in the CVAC standings with a 4-1 conference record. The Lady Saints fell to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the league.

St. Andrews dominated the boards in the first half, 27-11, to take a commanding 39-25 halftime lead. The Lady Knights led for the whole game and a 17-2 run midway through the opening frame provided SAPC with its largest advantage of the day, 31-13.

Junior Erika Thompson (Kalamazoo, Mich.) led the Lady Knights into the locker room scoring 10 of her 15 points in the first half. Thompson also dished out a game-high eight assists in the victory.

St. Andrews stayed in control throughout the second half by finishing the day shooting 35-for-67 (52.2%) from the field. Limestone could never get any closer than eight points in the second half while the Knights maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the second stanza.

Norman finished with 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Norman was held to nine boards after fouling out with four minutes left.

The Knights finished with a 46-34 advantage on the glass. St. Andrews also tallied assists on 24-of-35 made field goals including six helpers by senior Ashley Mitchell (Washington, D.C.). The Saints were held to 18-for-54 (33.3%) shooting.

Senior Karen Foggie (Charlotte, N.C.) was the third Lady Knight in double-digits, bucketing 10 points. Foggie also supplied five rebounds and four assists while Mitchell added nine points, five boards, and three steals. Senior Diana Martinez (Woodbridge, Va.) chipped in with eight points and five boards. Senior April Henderson (Woodbridge, Va.) and junior April Johnson ( McColl, S.C.) each posted seven points.

Junior Lindsay Kyle (Springfield, Va.) led the Saints with a game-high 23 points including 14-of-18 made free throws. Senior Reagan Robins (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and junior Shelly Robinson (Belmont, N.C.) both reach double-digits with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

St. Andrews will host CVAC rival Belmont Abbey College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
