St.
Andrews Women’s Basketball Signs Eastern Wayne Center
May
5, 2004
LAURINBURG,
NC—The
St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team
has announced the signing of a national letter of intent by Jessy
Perkins of Eastern Wayne High School. Perkins is a 6’2” center
who will be a very strong presence in the paint for the Knights.
Jessy had
a strong senior season averaging 13 points, 11 rebounds, and three
blocks per game. Perkins also has many accomplishments including
being an all conference player, an all area team selection, and an
MVP selection.
SAPC Head
Coach William Carter believes that, “Jessy will be a force
for other teams to reckon with four the next four years, especially
on the defensive end of the floor. As she continues to improve her
moves around the basket, she will also become a tough player for
the opponents to stop on offense.”
Jessy is
the daughter of Clarkie and Berky Perkins of Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Andrews Women’s Basketball Signs Western Guilford Forward

LAURINBURG,
NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian
College women’s basketball team has announced the signing
of a national letter of intent by Jackie Cromer of Western Guilford
High School. Cromer is a 5’10” forward who had a
strong senior season averaging 17 points, nine rebounds, three
steals, and two blocks per game.
The SAPC
women’s basketball coaching staff is excited to have Jackie
join the Knights for the next four seasons. Head Coach William Carter
stated, “Jackie will bring her experience from the high school
and AAU level to the team, but even greater than that will be the
extra effort and hustle that she will provide on the court. I believe
she will be a very successful player for the Knights.”
Jackie
is the daughter of Larry and Susan Lake of Summerfield, North Carolina.

St.
Andrews Women’s Basketball Advances Past Queens, 79-72

LAURINBURG,
NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian
College women’s basketball team held on to defeat Queens
University of Charlotte, 79-72, in the first round of the 2004
Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Women’s Basketball
Tournament on Tuesday evening in Harris Court.
The No.
7 seed Knights shot 29-for-65 (44.6%) from the field in route to
the seven-point victory as the No. 10 seed Royals only shot 26-for-67
(38.8%). SAPC improved to 12-16 overall, which is the most wins for
the Knights since joining the NCAA Division II ranks, while Queens
fell to 8-20.
St. Andrews
jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first 2:27 and remained in
front for the whole first half. The Knights went into the locker
room leading by six, 35-29.
The Royals
started the second half with a 19-11 run in the first eight minutes
to take their first lead of the game 48-46. The game would remain
close for the next four minutes including six ties and four lead
changes.
With 6:49
left in the game Mandy Coltrain (Williamston, NC) put the Knights
up for good nailing a 3-pointer. Queens kept the game close hitting
several shots but St. Andrews seemed to answer every time. The Knights
sealed the victory hitting most of their free throws in the last
couple minutes.
The Knights
used a well-balanced attack that included five players scoring in
double digits. Senior point guard Quita Currie (St. Pauls, NC) scored
15 points and dished out nine assists. Karen Foggie (Charlotte, NC)
also tallied 15 points while Jennifer Burns (Apex, NC) chipped in
with 12 points and six rebounds. Diana Martinez (Woodbridge, VA)
recorded a double-double with 12 boards and 10 points and Kebony
Thompson (Hickory, NC) added 10 points including two 3-pointers.
Sarah Newman
(Berea, KY) was the games high scorer with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting
for the Royals. Kellie Joplin (Hudson, NC) contributed with 14 points
and seven rebounds for Queens.
St. Andrews
advances to play the No. 2 seed Anderson College Trojans tomorrow
afternoon in Anderson, SC at 7:00 p.m.

THOMASVILLE,
NC—The Carolinas-Virginia
Athletics Conference announced the 2004 Women’s Basketball
Tournament Bracket on Monday morning.
St. Andrews
(11-16 overall, 8-12 CVAC), who finished its best NCAA Division II
regular season, will enter the CVAC tournament as the No. 7 seed.
The Knights will host the No. 10 seed Queens University of Charlotte
(8-19, 5-15) on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
The Knights
split the season series with the Royals. SAPC defeated Queens in
Charlotte on January 29th by a 74-63 score. However, the Royals defeated
the Knights in Laurinburg on February 12th by 12, 78-66.
With a
victory on Tuesday, St. Andrews would have to turn around and travel
to Anderson, South Carolina to face the No. 2 seed Anderson Trojans
(21-6, 16-4) on Wednesday evening.
The tournament
semi-finals and finals will be played in Due West (Erskine hosting)
on Friday and Saturday.

Top Lady Trojans, 70-57
Thompson Reaches 1000 Career Points

LAURINBURG,
NC—Senior guard Kebony Thompson
(Hickory, NC) reached the 1000 career point total as she helped
St. Andrews Presbyterian College defeat Carolinas-Virginia Athletics
Conference foe Mt. Olive, 70-57, on Senior Night.
Thompson’s
14 points on 5-of-10 shooting led St. Andrews to their 11th victory
of the season, which is an NCAA Division II era record for the Knights.
SAPC improved to 11-15 overall and 8-11 in the CVAC while the Lady
Trojans fell to 10-15 and 6-12. The win also secured a first round
home game for the Knights in the CVAC tournament that starts next
week.
The first
half remained close throughout including four lead changes. After
trailing 24-20 with 4:40 left in the first period, St. Andrews scored
the last 10 points of the half and went into the locker room up six,
30-24.
The Knights
remained strong for the whole second half, as they never relinquished
their lead. MOC tied the game up with 7:32 remaining with a 10-2
run but could never take the lead. Slowly St. Andrews started to
pull away and won by 13 (the largest lead of the game).
Senior
guard Quita Currie (St. Pauls, NC) found Thompson open in the left
corner with 16:28 left in the second half. Thompson drilled the 3-pointer
giving her 11 points for the game and a 1000 for her career. Head
Coach William Carter called a timeout to honor her achievement with
a plaque.
All three
seniors had an outstanding night. Currie finished with nine points,
five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Senior forward Amy Miller
(Venice, FL) chipped in with four rebounds and Thompson also recorded
three rebounds and two assists.
The Knights
Karen Foggie (Charlotte, NC) scored a team high 15 points along with
six rebounds, three steals and an assist. Diana Martinez (Woodbridge,
VA) contributed with 10 points.
Latoria
Harvey (Ivanhoe, NC) tallied a double-double for the Lady Trojans
scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Melanie Cobb (Richland,
NC) and Teneal Boone (Jacksonville, NC) each scored 10 points for
Mt. Olive.
“We
used the same game plan as last time we played Mt. Olive (a 1-point
victory on Jan. 26), but we shot better and executed on defense better,” stated
Carter after the game. He continued with, “It was nice to secure
a home playoff game before the last game of the regular season. We
match up pretty well with all of the teams we may play next week
and we shoot good at home.”
Carter
was also very happy and relieved for Thompson and her accomplishment
stating, “I’m glad she was able to do it at home and
before the playoffs to take off the pressure.”
The Knights
will finish their regular season in Misenheimer, North Carolina against
CVAC rival Pfeiffer on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. Mt. Olive hosts
Coker Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Lady
Cobras Hold Off St. Andrews, 65-57

LAURINBURG,
NC—Shamae Hemingway’s
(Conway, SC) 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting helped lead the Coker
College women’s basketball team to a 65-57 Carolinas-Virginia
Athletics Conference win over St. Andrews Monday evening in Harris
Court.
The Lady
Cobras (14-8 overall, 10-5 CVAC) jumped out to an early 13-3 lead
in the first 6:38 but watched the Knights (10-13, 7-9) charge right
back to take the lead with a 13-0 run. The game remained close for
a couple minutes until Coker ended the period with a 9-2 run giving
themselves a 31-24 halftime lead.
SAPC hung
in to start the second half getting as close as 45-42 with 7:01 remaining
but could not contain the Lady Cobras inside. Coker pulled away to
the largest lead of the game, 64-52, with 24 seconds left and coasted
to the eight-point victory.
St. Andrews
did a better job on the boards compared to their last meeting (Coker
had a 62-31 rebounding advantage on January 20th) but still only
pulled down 31 compared to the Lady Cobra’s 38. Both teams
shot 41 percent from the field and the Knights had 27 turnovers to
Coker’s 22.
Hemingway
also grabbed eight rebounds while Michelle Glover (Beaufort, South
Carolina) finished with a game high 11 boards. Sara Nelson (Mondovi,
Wisconsin) chipped in with 12 points Rnesha Baldwin (Bolingbrook,
Illinois) provided five assists.
Mandy Coltrain
(Williamston, North Carolina) led St. Andrews with 12 points and
five assists. Karen Foggie (Charlotte, NC) and Jennifer Burns (Apex,
NC) tallied 10 points each. Amy Miller (Venice, Florida) provided
five rebounds and four steals.
The Knights
next match-up against CVAC rival Belmont Abbey on Thursday evening
at 5:30 p.m. in Belmont, NC.

Queens
Women Edge St. Andrews, 78-66

LAURINBURG,
NC—The Queens University
of Charlotte women’s basketball team snapped a nine game
losing streak with a 78-66 victory over Carolinas-Virginia Athletics
Conference foe St. Andrews Thursday evening on Harris Court.
The Royals
improved to 7-14 overall and 4-10 in the CVAC while the Knights fell
to 9-12 and 6-8. SAPC had won six of their last seven entering the
game.
Queens
jumped out to an early 24-10 lead in the first ten minutes after
drilling five 3-pointers in that stretch including three hit by Sarah
Newman (Berea, KY). The Knights hung in and pulled to within seven
in the first half but could never get any closer.
St. Andrews
did themselves in during the first 20 minutes shooting 11-for-38
(28.9%) while the Royals shot 14-for-29 (48.3%). Queens finished
the game shooting 45.6 percent.
Maggie
Austin (Wilmington, NC) led Queens with 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Tiffany Adkins (Lexington, NC) followed with a double-double including
15 points and 12 rebounds. Newman finished with 15 points, six rebounds,
and five steals.
Junior
Mandy Coltrain (Williamston, NC) had a team-high 11 points for the
Knights. Freshman Diana Martinez (Woodbridge, VA) and junior Jennifer
Burns (Apex, NC) chipped in 10 points each.
St. Andrews
will next visit league rival Lees-McRae while Queens will host a
CVAC match-up with Pfeiffer. Both games will be on Saturday, Valentine’s
Day, at 5:30 p.m.

Knights
Edge Lady Trojans, 68-64

LAURINBURG,
NC—The St.
Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team escaped
with a 68-64 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory
over Anderson Saturday night on Harris Court.
The
Knights have won six of their last seven to improve to 9-11 overall
and 6-7 in the CVAC while the Lady Trojans fell to 12-6 and 7-4.
St.
Andrews took the largest lead of the first half, 34-27, with 3:23
remaining. AC responded with a 6-2 run heading into the locker room
down by three.
The
Knights were able to maintain the lead throughout most of the second
period but could never pull away. Anderson gained a 60-54 lead with
5:18 to go but watched St. Andrews rally with a 11-2 run in the next
4:35 to take a 65-62 advantage.
Stephanie
Ponds converted on a lay-up with 1:22 to pull Anderson within one
and Deidra Langston had a chance to put them up on the next possession
but missed both freebees from the line. The Knights converted on
3-of-4 free throws in the last 15 seconds to seal the four-point
victory.
Diana
Martinez had a game high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting while Karen
Foggie and Mandy Coltrain followed with 11 each. Quita Currie chipped
in 12 assists, seven rebounds, and five points.
LaShonda
Chiles lead the Lady Trojans with 15 points. Stephanie Ponds and
Deidra Langston contributed with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Shemika Reed had a game high 13 rebounds along with eight points.
St.
Andrews will host CVAC rival Queens on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Barton
Women Keep Rolling With 67-61 Victory Over St. Andrews

WILSON,
NC—Barton
overcame a poor shooting night Thursday to power past visiting
St. Andrews, 67-61, in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference
women’s basketball game.
The
Lady Bulldogs, winners in 11 of their last 12 games, improved to
15-3 overall and 11-1 in the conference while St. Andrews, which
had won five straight, slid to 8-11, 5-7.
Barton
trailed 53-59 with less than three minutes to play. Two free throws
and a 3-pointer by Lisa Halttunen pulled the Lady Bulldogs within
58-59 with 2:15 left. The Bulldogs took the lead for the first time
in 14 minutes at 61-59 with 1:20 showing when Shannon Finis drilled
a 3-pointer.
St.
Andrews then tied it at 61 on a bucket by Quita Currie. A short jumper
by Kelly Lamotta gave Barton a 63-61 lead, then Halttunen and Trisha
Vann hit two free throws apiece to seal the victory.
Lamotta,
the CVAC’s leading scorer, tallied 23 points and 16 rebounds,
both game-highs. She also had two assists and two steals. Halttunen
finished with 17 points and seven assists and Keauna Vinson totaled
13 points and 10 boards.
Barton
only shot 35 percent for the game compared to 46 percent for the
Knights, who rode 14 points by Jennice Malcom, 12 by Currie and 10
by Diana Martinez. Amy Miller chipped in nine rebounds, four assists,
two steals, and two points.
The
Knights will try to avenge a 90-60 to Anderson on Saturday night
as they host the Lady Trojans at 5:30 p.m.

Knights’ Women
Roll Past Limestone, 75-55

LAURINBURG,
NC—The St.
Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team won
its fourth straight Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference game
with a 75-55 victory over Limestone Monday evening in Harris
Court. The Knights improve to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in the CVAC
while the Saints fell to 3-12 and 2-8.
An
11-10 lead with 13:39 remaining in the first half was the only time
the Saints were in front. The Knights built up to an eight-point
lead in the first period but watched Limestone make a late 5-0 run
to cut the SAPC lead to 34-31 at halftime.
The
Knights stormed out of the locker room with a 23-7 run in the first
11:46 of the second half. St. Andrews never looked back going ahead
by 27. Ice cold shooting from the Saints allowed the Knights to coast
to a 20 point win. Limestone had a 12:19 stretch in the second half
where they never scored a field goal (only free throws).
St.
Andrews shot 30-for-59 (50.8 %) from the field while the Saints shot
22-for-67 (32.8 %). The Knights also won the battle of the boards,
49-33.
The
Knights had a well-balanced attack that including 14 different players
scoring. Kebony Thompson, Diana Martinez, and Mandy Coltrain led
the way with 10 points apiece. Amy Miller had team highs in rebounds
(8) and steals (7). Quita Currie added eight points and six assists
while Jennice Malcom tallied seven rebounds and six points.
Shell
Lowrance led both sides with 15 points and eight steals for the Saints.
Limestone’s Laura Knapp contributed with 10 points and nine
rebounds while Jada Blakely, LaDovia Dukes, and Kelly Tarr each chipped
in seven points.
“Our
(St. Andrews) team is definitely shooting better from the field which
has helped us win four straight. We’re taking better quality
shots from better angles”, stated head coach William Carter.
Carter
added, “The first half of the game was sloppy on our part but
good shooting saved us. We cannot commit as many turnovers (36) if
we wish to keep our winning streak alive.”
The
Knights will make a long non-conference trip to Maryland to face
Columbia Union at 6:00 p.m. Monday night.

Andrews Rolls Past Queens, 74-63

CHARLOTTE,
NC—The St.
Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team took
a 35-29 halftime lead and rolled past Queens University of Charlotte
in the second half for a 74-63 CVAC win Thursday night.
St.
Andrew’s Kebony Thompson drilled two consecutive three pointers
early in the second half to give the Knights a 41-31 advantage. St.
Andrews (6-10 overall, 4-6 CVAC), winners of three straight, continued
to build its lead throughout the second half, as the Knights held
a 25-point advantage at 64-39 with 8:18 remaining. Queens made an
honest attempt for a comeback but it fell well short.
Queens
(6-9 overall, 3-5 CVAC) committed 23 turnovers and were out rebounded
48-41. Queens shot just 30 percent compared to St. Andrew’s 43
percent. The
Knights had 15 steals.
Queens’ Tiffany
Adkins continued her stellar play and led all scorers with 18 points
and 12 rebounds. Sarah Newman added 11 points and Carmen Waterman
seven.
St.
Andrews used a balanced attack to beat the Royals. Thompson had 12
points,
Mandy Coltrain 11, Quita Currie and Jennice Malcom eight, Diana Martinez
seven, and
Karren Foggie and Christina Boyd six. Currie also added six rebounds
and five assists.
The
Knights will host CVAC rival Limestone on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. St.
Andrews defeated the Saints, 84-71, earlier in the year.

Knights
Women’s Basketball Slips By Mt. Olive, 67-66

MOUNT OLIVE, NC—Quita Currie scored 18 points and hit
the game-winning lay-up with 5.5 seconds left to give St. Andrews a 67-66
win over host Mount Olive in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference
women’s basketball Tuesday at Mount Olive. Currie’s basket
came eight seconds after Latoria Harvey put the Trojans on top.
Mount Olive (6-8 overall, 3-5 CVAC) trailed by as many as five points
in the first half before Tanika Hudgins and Melanie Cobb combined for
all of the points in a 7-0 run to give the Trojans a 24-22 lead late
in the half. St. Andrews (5-10, 3-6) scored the final five points of
the half to go into the locker room with a 27-24 lead.
After a St. Andrews free throw, the Trojans went on a 12-2 run as Brandy
Smith’s three-pointer gave Mount Olive its biggest lead at 36-30
with 16:34 left in the half. But Currie sparked a St. Andrews run as
the Knights took a 45-40 lead with 10:22 remaining. The Trojans rallied
to take a three-point lead before a 9-0 run gave St. Andrews a 63-57
lead with 1:48 left in the game.
Smith cut the lead in half with her third three-pointer of the game and
Teneal Boone hit a 10-foot baseline jumper to pull the Trojans within
63-62 with 53 seconds left. After Mandy Coltrain hit a basket for St.
Andrews, Harvey hit a pair of free throws with 27 seconds left to cut
the lead back to one. Hudgins then made a steal near mid-court and Harvey
hit a 12-foot jumper from inside the lane to give the Trojans a 66-65
lead with 13 seconds left. After a timeout, Currie drove the length of
the court and drew a foul as she hit the go-ahead lay-up. She missed
the free throw, but Hudgins’ 35-footer at the buzzer bounced off
the side of the rim.
Harvey finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Trojans, while
Smith added a season-high 15 points.
Currie
added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals to her 18 points.
Coltrain finished with 14 points for St. Andrews. Kebony Thompson
tallied 10 points while Jennifer Burns and Jennice Malcom each had
team high five reboards.
Tuesday’s game was originally scheduled for Monday night, but was
postponed 24 hours due to the weather. St. Andrews travels to Queens
Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a CVAC match-up.

Knights
Surge Past Lady Falcons, 84-78

LAURINBURG,
NC—The St.
Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team won
its second Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference game of the
season defeating visiting Pfeiffer University, 84-78, on Saturday
evening in Harris Court. The Knights improve to 4-10 overall
and 2-6 in the CVAC while the Lady Falcons fell to 5-9 and 1-6.
Pfeiffer
jumped out to an early 21-9 lead in the first 8:10 of the game but
slowly watched St. Andrews rally to tie the game at halftime, 44-44.
The
game remained close for most of the second period, as there were
14 lead changes. The Knights clung to a to a one-point lead, 67-66,
with 5:28 remaining. SAPC started to pull away on the next two possessions
with Kebony Thompson converted on a jumper after grabbing an offensive
rebound and Quita Currie stealing the ball and going in for an easy
lay-up. The Knights clinched the game nailing nine of their 10 free
throws in the final four minutes.
Diana
Martinez led St. Andrews with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Martinez
also had five rebounds and three steals. Currie tallied 13 points
and a team high seven rebounds. Erin Fournier drained the Knights
only two 3-pointers for 10 points.
Sarah
Reese and Jenny Volpicelli led the Lady Falcons with 18 and 15 points,
respectively. Emily Goad contributed with a double double that included
12 points and 10 rebounds.
The
Knights caused 29 Pfeiffer turnovers while only giving up 16. St.
Andrews out rebounded the Lady Falcons, 49-36, after not doing good
on the boards Monday night against Coker.
St.
Andrews will try to make it two in a row as they travel to face CVAC
rival Mt. Olive on Monday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Coker
Cruises To 75-53 Victory Over Knights

HARTSVILLE,
SC—Coker
took advantage of its size inside Monday night in a 75-53 victory
over St. Andrews Presbyterian College in women's collegiate basketball.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball but Coker held a major
advantage on the boards, out-rebounding their foe 62-31. The
Cobras improve to 6-6 and 3-3 in the CVAC, while SAPC drops to
3-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The
Cobras never trailed in the game by striking early with a three-point
barrage courtesy of Sara Steffen and Selena Davis. The duo combined
to nail four threes on Coker's first six scoring possessions. That
gave the Cobras a 16-7 advantage after five minutes and they never
looked back, leading 39-24 at the break.
The
lead hovered in the low twenties for the majority of the second half,
stretching to 67-38 for a moment before the Knights brought it back
down to the final margin.
Coker's
domination of the boards was complete, as they pulled down 27 offensive
rebounds and 35 on the defensive glass. Their offensive rebounding
success led to a 16-2
advantage in second chance points.
Steffen
and Davis paced the Cobras with 15 points apiece. Steffen also had
seven rebounds, and Davis recorded six boards and four assists.
Kebony
Thompson led the St. Andrews with 15 points, and Jennifer Burns scored
11. Amy Miller grabbed six rebounds.
The
Knights will be off until Saturday when they host CVAC rival Pfeiffer
University at 5:30 p.m.

Lees-McRae
Victorious Over St. Andrews
January
17, 2004
LAURINBURG,
NC—The Lees-McRae
women’s basketball team was able to hold off Carolinas-Virginia
Athletics Conference foe and host St. Andrews Presbyterian College
by an 81-74 score on Saturday evening in Harris Court.
The
game remained close though out as neither team could gain a bigger
lead than nine. The Knights made the first run jumping out to a 27-18
lead with 8:52 remaining in the first. The Lady Bobcats responded
with a 20-11 run to finish out the first half and put the game deadlocked
at 38-38 at halftime.
Lees-McRae
grabbed the advantage in the start of the second period building
up to a 59-50 lead in the first 9:09 of the half. St. Andrews responded
with its own 20-11 run to tie the game up at 70-70 with 4:05 remaining
in the game. Slowly the Lady Bobcats were able to gain a three-point
lead with 40 seconds left. The Knights would miss their final three
field goal attempts and LMC would convert on most of their free throws
down the stretch to win by seven.
Deanna
Lady recorded a double double for the Lady Bobcats scoring 24 points
on 11-of-19 shooting and grabbing 13 rebounds. Taukia Hughes followed
with 21 points and nine boards. Courtney Gogolinski tallied 10 points
while Laura Parker dished out six assists.
Jennifer
Burns continued her solid play inside for the Knights scoring a team-high
16 points and pulling down team-high nine rebounds. Karen Foggie
and Diana Martinez finished with 12 and eight points, respectively,
while Jennice Malcom had eight boards.
Lees-McRae
improved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the CVAC while St. Andrews fell
to 3-9 and 1-5.
The
Knights will travel to face CVAC rival Coker on Monday evening at
5:30 p.m.

Knights and the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference has agreed
to use CyberSports as a league-wide provider of stats for basketball.
All CVAC schools are using CyberSports software for in-game and post-game
statistics.
CyberSports
also provides a conference and team web page for every men and women’s
team in the league. The conference site contains standings, league
leaders, game-by-game results, and links to each teams page. The
team sites include schedule, results, and team and individual statistics.
You
can access the conference and team sites by following these simple
instructions.

4. Pick the team your looking for or the conference (CVAC).

One
of the newest and most exciting features with CyberSports is live
webcasting of games. With the software all CVAC schools are able
to connect with the Internet and send the play-by-play of a game
to everyone to follow on the net as the game is going on. Follow
these simple instructions to receive the live webcast of all St.
Andrews and CVAC games.

Wait until game time and then go to www.cybersportsusa.com
2. Click on ‘Todays Webcast’ link in the Basketball box.
3. Find the game you want to follow. Games are listed based upon start
time.
Click on the picture link of a video camera next to the game you want
to follow.
4. Click on the game you want to follow in the hot game list.
The
page that comes up will supply you with all the game information.
You will not have to refresh the page as it will do it for you every
30-40 seconds. You have to go through this process for each individual
game you want to follow (i.e. doubleheaders).

Lady
Crusaders Defeat St. Andrews, 65-47
January

LAURINBURG,
NC—The Belmont
Abbey College women’s basketball team took a wire-to-wire
victory against Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference foe St.
Andrews Presbyterian College, 65-47, on Thursday evening in Harris
Court.
Even
though the Lady Crusaders were able to jump out to an early lead,
the Knights hung in for most of the first period. St. Andrews only
tie came at the 8:49 mark in the first period. Abbey was able to
close the period with a 14-5 run to give the Crusaders a 28-19 lead
going into the locker room. BAC remained poised in the second half
and was able to coast to the 18-point victory.
The
Lady Crusaders were able to build a big lead on 31 St. Andrews turnovers
that led to several fast break lay-ups.
Valorie
Bennett scored a game high 26 points for Belmont Abbey on 10-of-19
shooting. Valerie Zarse and Nola Grant scored 10 and nine points,
respectively. Nola Grant pulled down eight boards for the Lady Crusaders
while Yvette Battle tallied nine assists.
Jennifer
Burns led the Knights with ten points. Ashley Mitchell recorded seven
points and Quita Currie had six. Amy Miller grabbed a game high 11
rebounds followed by nine from Burns.
Belmont
Abbey improved to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the CVAC while St. Andrews
fell to 3-8 and 1-4.
The
Knights will host CVAC rival Lees-McRae on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Anderson
Women Rout St. Andrews, 90-60
January
10, 2004
ANDERSON,
SC—The Anderson College women’s basketball
team reached 90 points for the fourth time in the last five games
to take a 90-60 CVAC victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College
Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center.
Anderson,
7-3 overall and 2-1 in the CVAC, was led by LaShonda Chiles with
24 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Leann Segers added 15 points
and Shemika Reed chipped in 13 for the Lady Trojans, who have won
six of their last seven. During that streak, AC is 6-0 when it scores
80 or more points.
St.
Andrews, 2-7 and 0-3, was led by Jennifer Burns with 14 points and
Christina Boyd with 11.
Anderson
never trailed in the game. The Lady Trojans built their lead to double
digits in the first 13 minutes and never looked back. Leading 45-31
at the half, AC opened the second half with a 25-14 run in the first
11 minutes of the second half for a 70-45 lead.
An
8-0 run, all on free throws, gave the Lady Trojans their largest
lead of 31 points – 82-51 with 4:23 remaining.
Anderson
shot 48 percent from the field while limiting St. Andrews to 30 percent.
The Knights suffered 26 turnovers, and the Lady Trojans had 15 steals,
four by Reed. Anderson scored 25 points of St. Andrews turnovers.
Led
by Chiles, AC won the boards, 45-38. Ashley Mitchell was the Knights’ leading
rebounder with five.
The
Knights will travel to Gaffney, SC to face CVAC rival Limestone on
Monday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Eleven
3-Pointers Launches Erskine Over St. Andrews

LAURINBURG,
NC—Lisa
Jackson drilled a three-pointer with 6.2 seconds remaining in
the game to give the Erskine College women’s basketball
team at 55-53 comeback win against host St. Andrews Presbyterian
College on Wednesday evening.
The
Flying Fleet improved to 5-3 overall and remain undefeated in the
Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference with a 2-0 record. The Knights
fall to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
St.
Andrews looked to be in charge of the game leading most of the way.
Erskine last led at 6:42 in the first half until Jackson hit the
big trey in the final seconds of the game. The Knights largest lead
came with 6:00 minutes left in the final period, 49-41.
The
Flying Fleet remained in the game mostly because of persistent shooting
from the arch going 11-of-32 for 34.4% on the game.
St.
Andrew’s Kebony Thompson nailed two free throws to give the
Knights a 53-49 lead going into the final minute. With the shot clock
winding down Erskine’s Melissa Wood spun around with a desperation
three that found the bucket to pull the game within one. The Knights
could not convert on there next possession. Jackson followed with
her three to give the Flying Fleet a two-point lead that would hold
up.
Woods
finished the game with a team high 14 points including five 3-pointers
and seven assists. Anita Owens bucketed 13 points and grabbed nine
boards for the Flying Fleet.
Erin
Fournier led the way for the Knights tallying 14 points and three
assists. Christina Boyd followed with 11 points and four steals while
Amy Miller contributed with eight rebounds.
St.
Andrews will try to rebound as they travel to face CVAC rival Anderson
on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

St.
Andrews Women’s Basketball Blasts Past Wesleyan

LAURINBURG,
NC—Wesleyan
College’s (Macon, GA) women’s basketball team never
had a chance against St. Andrews, who defeated them 98-55 in
Harris Court on Tuesday evening.
The
Knights jumped out to an early 14-2 lead in the first five minutes
and never looked back. The Pioneers had a couple bursts in the first
half pulling the score to within 10, but could not maintain the pressure.
SAPC took a 51-30 halftime lead. After the break the Knights continued
their dominance building up to a 43 point victory.
The
Knights had their best shooting performance going 37-of-68 (54.4%)
from the field including 8-of-19 (42.1%) from three-point range.
Wesleyan only shot 30.6 percent for the game. St. Andrews also dominated
the boards, out rebounding the Pioneers 52-31.
Jennifer
Burns (Apex, NC) had the hottest hand for the Knights making 6-of-8
shots from the field and all four free-throws attempts for 16 points.
Burns also grabbed six rebounds and blocked one shot.
The
Knights had five other players in double digits including Kebony
Thompson’s (Hickory, NC) 13, Quita Currie’s (St. Pauls,
NC) 12, and Christina Boyd’s (Hendersonville, NC) 11. Mandy
Coltrain (Williamston, NC) and Tamerial Coward (La Grange, NC) each
tallied 10 points for St. Andrews.
Amy
Miller (Venice, FL) seized a team high nine rebounds while Coward
captured seven. Currie led the team with seven assists and Miller
and Karen Dewell (Sugar Grove, VA) hammered two blocks apiece.
Shannon
Haggins and Synja Turner scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, for
Wesleyan. Haggins had eight rebounds while Maggie Bankston recorded
seven.
The
win marked the second straight victory for the Knights who move to
2-4 on the season while the Pioneers drop to 1-6.
The
Knights will be off until January 3rd (2:00 p.m.) when the travel
to Francis Marion.

Knights
Capture First Win Defeating Newberry
December
13, 2003
LAURINBURG,
NC—The Knights
women’s basketball team rallied from a one-point halftime
deficit to defeat Newberry, 69-59, giving head coach William
Carter his first victory at St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
The
Knights (1-4) made five of their first six shots out of the gate
and grabbing a 22-14 led with 11:25 left in the first half. At that
point the Knights went cold and were only able to convert on two
more field goals in the period, both of which were lay-ups.
The
Lady Indians (3-6) out rebounded St. Andrews by 11 in the first half
in route to a 30-29 halftime lead. The Knights responded at the break
by going from zone defense to man-to-man. St. Andrews won the battle
of the board by one in the second half.
Both
teams played even to start the second half that included several
lead changes. Newberry took its last lead, 39-38, with 14:20 left
in the game.
The
game remained close until the final two minutes, with the Lady Indians
trailing by three points. The Knights secured the game at the free-throw
line after Newberry started fouling, connecting on 11-of-14 freebees
in the last couple of minutes.
Quita
Currie’s (St. Pauls, NC) double double lead the charge for
St. Andrews. The 5-6 guard lead the team with 10 rebounds. Currie
also tallied 11 points, five assists, two steals, and one block.
The
Knights did a good job spreading out the offense with three other
players scoring in double digits including Diana Martinez (12), Ashley
Mitchell (11), and Kebony Thompson. Mandy Coltrain and Jennifer Burns
recorded 8 and 7 points, respectively.
Laura
Banda scored a team high 19 points for the Lady Indians. Tanya Deese
dropped in 10 points while Elizabeth Greene grabbed nine rebounds.
Kelsey Maloney contributed with eight points and four blocks.
Coach
Carter set a team goal to keep their turnovers under 18 for the game
after averaging 27.25 tpg in their first four games. The Knights
met the goal as they only caused 15 turnovers to Newberry’s
23.
Carter
felt the team played well including making smarter passes. He went
on to say, “it was really nice to finally pull out a victory
after being in three of the first four games.” The win avenged
a 75-65 season opening loss to the Lady Indians on Nov. 15.
The
Knights will look forward to their next game when they host Wesleyan
on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m. Wesleyan was Carters previous coaching
job prior to coming to St. Andrews in the spring. Almost all the
players on Wesleyan’s team were recruits of Carter’s.

Barton
Slips By St. Andrews in OT
December

LAURINBURG,
NC—After
giving up a lead late in the game, Barton bounced back with a
63-60 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference overtime win against
host St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Harris Court on Monday
evening.
The
Knights looked poised to win its first game of the season after jumping
out to a 33-25 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs rallied out of the
locker room with a 9-2 run to pull the game to within one at 35-34.
St. Andrews did not record their first field goal of the second half
until 13:57.
The
game remained close for the remainder of regulation. Trisha Vann
nailed two free throws in the last minute to give Barton a 53-51
lead. Jennice Malcom responded for the Knights nailing a baseline
jumper with less than three seconds left in the game to force the
extra frame.
The
Lady Bulldogs grabbed a quick five-point lead in overtime. A group
of turnovers resulted in no scoring for the middle three minutes
of OT. To have a chance the Knights kept fouling. However, Barton
converted on 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch.
Erin
Fournier gave the Knights a final chance by draining a three-pointer
with 4.9 second left to pull within one. Keauna Vinson nailed both
shots from the charity stripe to pull the score to 63-60 with three
seconds left. The Knights stayed alive as a Barton player knocked
the inbounds pass out of bounds quickly. Fournier was able to throw
up a last second 3-pointer that rattled out as the buzzer went off.
Vinson
tallied a double double for the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points and
12 rebounds while Kelly Lamotta tallied 23 points and 8 boards. Lisa
Halttunen contributed with nine points and five steals.
Quita
Currie and Fournier led the Knights with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Currie also had five assists and four steals. Diana Martinez grabbed
11 rebounds and three steals.
Barton
improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the CVAC while St. Andrews fell
to 0-4 and 0-1.
The
Knights will host Newberry on December 13th at 2:00 p.m.

Knights
Swept at Lady Blue Bear Classic
November
21-22
SALISBURY,
NC—The St.
Andrews Presbyterian College women’s basketball team dropped
both of their games in the Lady Blue Bear Classic hosted by Livingstone
College this weekend. The Knights bounced back from a big loss
to Shaw University (93-56) on Friday night with a closely contested
game with host Livingstone (65-61) on Saturday.
Shaw
vs. St. Andrews
Shaw
University seemed small in numbers but played big on the court. The
Bears (3-0), who had seven players dressed, opened the game with
a 14-3 run in the first five minutes and dominated the remainder
of the first half. Shooting 60% from the floor, Shaw led at the half
48-26. The Lady Bears never looked back and handed the Knights a
93-56 loss.
Four players finished in double figures for the Lady Bears. St. Andrews
never gave up hope throughout the game, but they had no answer for the
fast Shaw attack that sank 55.6% of their shots on the night.
Jessica
Hawkins led the way for Shaw, shooting 12-for-13 from the field for
27 points while Kiarsha Curtis and Margiella Mobley drained 20 and
18 points, respectively.
Freshman
Guard Ashley Mitchell (Washington, DC) led the Knights with 12 points,
two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard Erin Fournier
(Arden, NC) tallied 10 points, three rebounds, and two three-pointers.
Diana Martinez (Woodbridge, VA) and Jennice Malcom (Brooklyn, NY)
each grabbed seven rebounds.
St.
Andrews vs. Livingstone
The
Knights rallied from the big loss on Friday with a good performance
against Livingstone (1-2). Statistically, St. Andrews would have
won the game as they caused fewer turnovers (23-25), had more steals
(16-5), and shot better from the field (40.3% to 38.3%).
The
Knights, who lead 30-28 at the half, gave the game away on the free
throw line. St. Andrews caused twice as many personal fouls (20-10),
which gave Livingstone 10 extra attempts from the line. The Lady
Blue Bears converted on 13 free throws and won the game 65-61.
Sherree
Gillespie and Claressa Robinson had double-doubles for Livingstone.
Gillespie finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds while Robinson
had 12 points and 10 boards.
Martinez
had the hot hand for the Knights shooting 83 % (10-for-12) from the
field. Martinez also collected 10 rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Three
Knights ended the game with seven points including Fournier, Mandy
Coltrain (Williamston, NC), and Jennifer Burns (Apex, NC). Burns
also grabbed nine rebounds and four steals.
St.
Andrews will not play again until December 1st, when they start their
Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference season by hosting Barton
at 5:30 p.m.

ALL-CVAC Women's Basketball Selections and Poll

THOMASVILLE, NC—Deanna Lady (Lees-McRae College), two-time
1st team all-CVAC selectee, 2002-03 all-tournament selection, and the
2001-02 freshman of the year is among an elite group of athletes chosen
for this year’s preseason all-CVAC team for the second year in
a row. Nola Grant (Belmont Abbey College) makes this year’s team
after a solid freshman campaign, averaging 9.25 ppg and 5.21 rpg. Grant,
a 2002-03 player of the week is the only sophomore to receive preseason
honors. Leanne Chandler (Coker College), a 2nd team all-CVAC member averaging
13.3 ppg and 8.9 rbg, joins Kelly Lamotta (Barton College) and Ladora
Charles (Mt. Olive College) to round out the selections. The Preseason
All-CVAC team is voted on by all conference member head coaches. Each
coach can only nominate one individual from their team, as the overall
top five vote-getters are included.
