Knights Drop to Queens at Home CloserNovember 4, 2011 Falling behind at the beginning, the Knights (0-16 Conference, 2-29 Overall) pushed for a rally to get back in the first set, but could never pass the Royals (14-2, 20-8). Freshmen Celia Duggan (Lugoff, SC) and Ashleigh Fritter (Midway Park, NC) led SAU with five kills each, helping the Knights reach their total of 16 overall kills. Sophomore setter Megan Nelson (Edmonds, WA) put up nine assists in tonight’s contest, while Fritter set three in an attempt to propel the Knights’ offense forward. The Royals took 74 swings at the ladies of St. Andrews. In an effort to keep the ball in play, Ruka Akolade (Aurora, CO) and Nelson each dug 10 attacked balls, with Allie Garland (Moreno Valley, CA) picking up eight balls that Queens (NC) tried to send to the floor. When she was not attacking the ball, Duggan was working to slow down the Royals’ offense, knocking down one solo block and touching several of Queens’ attempts. Ilaisha Hale (Moreno, CA) and Akolade also helped weaken the Royals’ attack by putting up a successful double block. Adding more points for the Knights, Lyndsey Moss (Marston, NC) and Nelson each blasted a service ace at Queens (NC). The Knights will travel to Pfeiffer University on Saturday, November 5, to take on the Falcons for their final match of the 2011 season. Live video and statistics will be available; check the St. Andrews University athletics website for the links to watch Knights Volleyball action. -GO KNIGHTS- |
