Crusaders Outlast Knights VolleyballOctober 28, 2011 Freshman Allie Garland (Moreno Valley, CA) led the Knights’ (0-14 Conference, 2-27 Overall) well improved defense with 18 digs; earning her 400 th dig of the season along the way. Doing everything possible to keep the ball in play, Ruka Akolade (Aurora, CO), Ashleigh Fritter (Midway Park, NC), and Stephanie Lombardo (Winterville, NC) also got their hands on numerous attacked balls (13, 9, and 9 respectively). Celia Duggan (Lugoff, SC) pounded 11 kills for SAU, earning the most kills of all the ladies who played in tonight’s matchup. Garland and Lombardo pulled out the second highest number of kills for the Knights with four each. Megan Nelson (Edmonds, WA) set 12 assists, followed by Garland who assisted nine kills. Putting more points on the board for SAU, Amanda VanKleeck (Deltona, FL), Fritter, and Garland each served up an ace for the Knights Netters against the Abbey. Taking 103 swings, the Knights took more attempts than the Crusaders (8-7, 16-13), but failed to knock down as many points. The Crusaders blasted 37 balls that the Knights could not keep in play. However, the Knights managed to slow down the Abbey’s attack by touching many of their swings with high sets going up for the block. Ilaisha Hale (Moreno, CA), Duggan, Lombardo, and Nelson threw up strong hands and accumulated two successful double blocks for the Knights (one block assist each). The Knights will appear at Harris Court again tomorrow (Saturday, October 29), when the ladies will host the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College at 2:00 PM. -GO KNIGHTS- |
