In their own words...
"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."

Box Score

Laurinburg, NC- Before tonight’s St. Andrews women’s volleyball game, freshman Allie Garland (Moreno Valley, CA) was presented with a commemorative volleyball signed by her teammates to mark her 300th career dig; which she received during the Knights’ last match. After the festivities, the Knights were left to face a brutal offense from the Coker Cobras. Pounding 42 kills at SAU, the Knights dropped the first three sets (0-3; 11-25, 14-25, 20-25) to Coker College in this evenings Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball match.

Once the game started, the Knights (0-13 Conference, 2-21 Overall) were immediately thrown into a defensive set up as the Cobras (5-7, 8-13) started their attack at the net with the first ball. Garland added even more digs to her career stats by keeping 17 balls in play for the Knights. Her efforts were supported by Megan Nelson (Edmonds, WA) and Stephanie Lombardo (Winterville, NC) who earned 13 and 10 digs respectively. Freshmen Celia Duggan (Lugoff, SC) and Garland each defended at the net by putting down one solo block each with Ilaisha Hale (Moreno, CA) and Ruka Akolade (Aurora, CO) joining forces for a double block.

Offensively, the ladies of SAU fell short in comparison to the Cobras as the Knights hit 22 less kills than Coker. Contributing the most successful attacks for St. Andrews was Duggan who added seven kills as the Knights worked their way to a total of 20. Almost every Knight earned at least one kill during tonight’s game. Nelson set 18 assists for her teammates and earned SAU’s only service ace of the game.

The Knights will travel to their final tournament event of the season this weekend. On Friday (October 21), the ladies will take on Coastal College of Georgia in Greenwood, SC, as Lander University hosts the weekend tournament. The squad will also play in two matches on Saturday, October 22.
