Box Score

Bristol, TN- The St. Andrews University women’s volleyball team made the long trek to Bristol, TN, for a tri-match event at King College this afternoon. For their first game, the ladies went up against host King College, who left the Knights with an 0-3 (14-25, 23-25, 12-25) loss. Moments later, the team took the court again to play the Lions of Mars Hill College and again could not seem to find their rhythm and dropped the game in three sets (0-3; 14-25, 11-25, 19-25).

King 3, St. Andrews 0

The Knights (2-19 Overall, 0-12 Conference) could not seem to keep up the net play that they have been executing during their past few games when they took on the King College Tornado (13-11, 7-4). The ladies only managed to put down 17 kills, while the Tornado blasted 41 balls to the floor. Stephanie Lombardo (Winterville, NC) led the Knights with six kills and no errors en route to a .375 hitting percentage for the match, followed closely by Celia Duggan (Lugoff, SC) and Megan Nelson (Edmonds, WA) who earned four each. Nelson picked up the team’s highest amount of digs (16) and assists (8). Allie Garland (Moreno Valley, CA) got her hands under nine attacks from King, while several Knights grabbed a handful of digs to add to the team total of 50. Setting up a wall at the net, Ilaisha Hale (Moreno, CA) knocked down two solo blocks while also joining Nelson and Lombardo to set up two successful assisted blocks. Even though the squad out-blocked and had far fewer serving errors than King, they could not overcome the Tornado’s powerful attacks as they lost the Conference Carolinas game 0-3.

Mars Hill 3, St. Andrews 0

Moments after their first match, the Netters were back at it again. This time the Lions of Mars Hill College (11-5 Overall) were on the other side of the net. Taking 114 swings each, the two teams were attacking at an even pace. However, the Lions hit 41 balls that were unable to be played by the Knights, while the ladies of SAU only managed to get 21 kills. Nelson again assisted the most kills for the ‘Drew (16) as well as tying with teammate Sam Neveu (Greenville, SC) for dig leader with 13. Right on their heels with a high number of digs were Garland and Lombardo, who earned 11 and 8 respectively. The Knights spread out their attack against the Lions, with several Knights earning kills. Hale, Neveu, Duggan, and Lombardo each put down four kills, with Garland earning three and Ashleigh Fritter (Midway Park, NC) and Nelson each getting one kill. The only block that earned SAU a point against Mars Hill was a double block set up by Duggan and Fritter.

The Knights will take on the Cobras of Coker College for the second time this season on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00 PM at Harris Court. Be sure to come out and support Knights volleyball for this Conference Carolinas matchup that promises to be thrilling as SAU vies for a win this time around.
