LAURINBURG, N.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College volleyball team celebrated ‘Senior Day’ on Saturday, but visiting Pfeiffer University was able to win the Conference Carolinas match-up 30-22, 30-19, 30-20 in Harris Court.
Before the match started Knights seniors Erin Haugen (Ft. Mill, S.C.), Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.), and Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) were all honored.
Juniors Petra Ljubicic (Asheboro, N.C.) and Lauren Spiotta (Batavia, N.Y.) each ripped nine kills for the visitors as the Lady Falcons improved to 17-9 overall and 10-5 in Conference Carolinas action.
Haugen, the only Knights (10-19, 9-8) four-year letter winner on this year’s squad, had 15 digs.
Stansbury was St. Andrews top attacker with seven kills while also providing 10 digs. Freshman Kelly Williams and Lemieux followed with five and four kills, respectively.
Knights’ junior Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) chipped in with 16 assists and four blocks. Freshman Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) added a team-high five blocks and classmate Janlique Vazquez (Kissimmee, Fla.) provided two assists.
Pfeiffer steadily built large leads in all three games behind 32 assists from junior Morgan Liebert (Huntersville, N.C.).
Other Falcons leaders included Spiotta logging 2.5 blocks; junior Brittney Poole (Sparta, N.C.) scooping up 25 digs; and senior Nicole Cummings (Sanford, N.C.) and sophomore Gabby McKinley (Asheville, N.C.) serving up 3 and 2 aces, respectively.
St. Andrews hosts non-conference local rival UNC-Pembroke on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Pfeiffer entertains Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
