Knights netters slip past Queens on the road

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Senior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) and freshmen Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) and Kelly Williams (Laurel, Md.) combined for 42 kills at Queens University of Charlotte en route to a 30-25, 30-20, 32-34, 30-32, 15-10 Conference Carolinas volleyball victory in ‘The Oven’ on Monday evening.

Senior libero Erin Haugen (Ft. Mill, S.C.) just missed her second 30-dig match of the season with a 29 dig performance to help the Lady Knights improve to 10-17 overall and 9-6 in league play. The Royals fell to 2-27 and 1-15.

St. Andrews opened up strong with five-point and a 10-point victories in the first two games to take the commanding 2-0 lead. However, Queens squeaked out a pair of extended games in the next to frames to force a decisive fifth. The Knights remained composed and completed the season-sweep of the Royals with the five-point win in the rubber game.

Stansbury led the Knights attackers with 22 kills while Davison and Williams each added 10 kills. Davison had a team-high .308 hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) set up the SAPC hitters with 45 assists while classmate Tyler Lee (Hillsborough, N.C.) chipped in with three blocks. St. Andrews, currently ranked 51st in the country in service aces per game, served up 14 aces including five by freshman Katie Lovett (Concord, N.C.) and four by junior Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho).

St. Andrews travels to Hartsville, S.C. for a Conference Carolinas match against Coker College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
