LAURINBURG, N.C.—Wingate University swept a pair of non-conference NCAA Division II women’s volleyball matches from host St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Limestone College by corresponding 3-0 scores on Saturday afternoon in Harris Court. Limestone started the afternoon tripleheader with a 3-0 Conference Carolinas victory over St. Andrews.
Limestone 3, St. Andrews 0 (32-30, 31-29, 30-25)
The Saints rallied from multiple point deficits in all three games to escape with the Conference Carolinas sweep of host St. Andrews in the opener. Limestone moves to 5-1 in league play while the Knights fell to 6-3.
Junior Lynn Milam (Summerville, S.C.) led the visitors with 17 digs while senior Melissa Thomas (Easley, S.C.) led the Saints hitters with 12 kills. Junior Sam Flannery (Acworth, Ga.) totaled eight kills and seven blocks; sophomore Courtney Taotoai (Norwalk, Calif.) added 14 digs and three aces; freshman Laura Kerrison (Charleston, S.C.) supplied 29 assists; and sophomore Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) had 14 digs.
Seniors Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) and Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) led St. Andrews with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Sophomore Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) had a game-high eight blocks and eight kills. Senior Erin Haugen (Ft. Mill, S.C.) scooped up 15 digs and sophomore Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) set 31 assists. Hayes added 11 digs while Lemieux had eight. Freshman Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) chipped in with four blocks and three service aces.
Wingate 3, Limestone 0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-17)
In Saturday’s middle game, Wingate University rolled to the 3-0 non-conference sweep against Limestone in a neutral site contest by hitting .288 as a team. The Saints finish the day with a 7-11 overall record.
Junior Kathryn Reddick (Franklinton, N.C.) led the Bulldogs with 13 kills, 12 digs, three service aces, and three block assists. Sophomore Brittany Horner (Roxboro, N.C.) was productive with 36 assists, 10 digs, and two block assists. Freshman Stormi Gale (Richmond, Texas) was also all over the stat sheet with nine kills, eight blocks, and three aces. Freshman Lauren Billo (Orland Park, Ill.) added 11 kills and three aces while sophomore Jacki Emmenecker (Perrysburg, Ohio) finished with 10 digs.
Taotoai and Ward led Limestone with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, and two aces apiece. Milam logged 11 assists while Thomas and junior Candace Robertson (Gaffney, S.C.) each had four spikes.
Wingate 3, St. Andrews 0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-19)
Wingate continued its strong play with another non-conference sweep, this time disposing of host St. Andrews 3-0. The Bulldogs seventh straight victory improved them to 16-1 on the season. SAPC, who next visits non-conference Francis Marion University on Tuesday night at 2:00 p.m., has a 7-11 record.
Freshman Rebecca Bloemer (Louisville, Ky.) had match-high 18 kills on 21 attempts (.810 hitting percentage) for the Bulldogs in the finale to go along with four aces. Emmenecker and sophomore Chelsea Cancelliere (Richboro, Pa.) each dug up 10 digs for the visitor’s .Senior Rachelle Rostas (Charlotte, N.C.) blasted 11 spikes and Emmenecker had 10 kills. Senior Melissa DeLuca (Bahama, N.C.) knotched 39 assists and eight digs.
Podolsky and Lemieux led the Knights with seven and five kills, respectively. Hayes had 19 assists and seven digs. Freshman Katie Lovett (Concord, N.C.) had a team-high eight digs while junior Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho) served up a pair of aces.
