LAURINBURG, N.C.—Anderson University handed the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s volleyball team is first Conference Carolinas loss with a 30-21, 30-28, 31-29 victory Friday night on Harris Court.
The Trojans won their third straight match to improve to 6-7 on the season and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play. The Lady Knights fell to 5-8 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Anderson started off strong scoring the first nine points of the match. The two teams played the rest of the first game even with the Trojans eventually winning by that same nine-point margin to take a 1-0 lead.
The visitors once again built a sizable lead at 17-11, but St. Andrews slowly clawed its way back into the game and squared everything at 27-27. After splitting the next two points, Anderson finally won the second by scoring the last two points and taking the commanding 2-0 advantage.
The Knights broke a 10-10 tie in the third with a 10-4 run to take a 20-14 lead in the third. The Trojans answered back with a 7-2 surge to knot the game back at 21-21. The two squads swapped the ensuing 16 points before Anderson finally won the decisive third, 31-29, with three straight points.
Freshman Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) provided the offense for the Knights with seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Davison also recorded two block assists.
Senior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) supplied another double-double with 16 digs and 12 kills. Senior Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) and sophomore Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) scooped up 14 and 10 digs, respectively. Hayes added 30 assists while both sophomore Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman Kelly Williams (Laurel, Md.) had two service aces.
Junior Amanda Edwards (Azle, Texas) led the Trojans to the victory with 14 kills, eight digs, and two block assists. Freshman Lindsay Doggett (Jacksonville, Ala.) provided 38 assists and two aces while sophomore Jennifer Moffitt (Hendersonville, N.C.) tallied a team-high 13 digs. Freshman Jamie Lancaster (Fountain Inn, S.C.) ripped 10 kills and senior Beth Lawson (Simpsonville, S.C.) chipped in with seven kills and two blocks.
St. Andrews hosts Conference Carolinas rival Converse College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Anderson visits league foe Coker College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
