SPARTANBURG, S.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College junior outside hitter Lindsey Stansbury and senior setter Kim Harper were selected to the 2006 CVAC All-Conference Teams at the Honors Banquet (hosted by Converse College) on Thursday night. Middle blocker Galina Podolsky was voted the 2006 CVAC Freshman of the Year.
Stansbury (Morgan City, La.), a transfer from Gulf Coast Community College, was named to the Second Team All-CVAC list. Stansbury played in all 38 matches and 125 games for the Lady Knights in her first season with the program. Stansbury compiled 3.52 kills/game, 3.93 digs/game, and 0.42 blocks/game in ’06. Stansbury’s 440 kills ranked first on the team including a team season-high 32 kills in one match. Stansbury had 20 double-double’s while recording over 30 digs twice. Stansbury finished the year hitting .173.
Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) was named to the All-CVAC Honorable Mention list for the third time in her four-year career at St. Andrews. Harper ranked amongst the league leaders with 10.49 assists/game and 0.53 aces/game. Harper also provided 3.49 digs/game for the Lady Knights. Harper finished her playing career at SAPC having played in 459 consecutive games. Harper tallied 28 double-double’s on her senior campaign and season-high’s of 67 assists, 32 digs, nine service aces, and six kills. Overall, Harper accumulated 4,965 assists, 1,637 digs, 329 kills, 217 aces, and 118 blocks in her career.
Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) was honored as the 2006 CVAC Freshman of the Year after hitting .267 for the Lady Knights in 37 matches and 131 games. Podolsky, who started in 37 matches in her rookie season, provided 3.02 kills/game, 1.05 digs/game, and 0.88 blocks/game for St. Andrews. Podolsky, who recorded double-digits in kills19 times, had season-highs of 22 kills, 17 digs, eight blocks and five aces.
The Knights concluded a turnaround season at 19-19 overall and 11-9 in the CVAC under second year head coach Dan Kreiger. St. Andrews earned the No. 6 seed in the CVAC Tournament after being picked preseason ninth and won a first round playoff match.
The Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference announced the 2006 award winners at their annual Honors Banquet that was hosted by Converse College on Thursday evening. Awards include All-CVAC First, Second, and Honorable Mention teams, Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, & Regular Season Champions. Head Coaches from CVAC member institutions nominate and then vote on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the conference.
