SAPC volleyball eliminated in CVAC Quarterfinal thriller

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Junior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) recorded a season-high 34 digs to go along with her 14 kills to lead No. 6 seed St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the quarterfinals on the 2006 CVAC Volleyball Tournament. However, tournament host and No. 3 seed Converse College pulled out the five-game (30-19, 30-26, 25-30, 25-30, 20-18) victory.

The Lady Knights and second year Head Coach Dan Kreiger end the season with a 19-19 overall record.

The All Stars took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match with 30-19 and 30-26 wins in the first two games.

St. Andrews seniors Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.), Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Lauren McManus (Raleigh, N.C.) would not let their final season end without a fight. Harper supplied 46 assists, 24 digs, four aces, and four blocks. Bewley logged 15 kills, 14 digs, and nine blocks. McManus added 29 digs and three assists.

The strong play helped the Knights tie the match up at 2-2 with a pair of 30-25 wins and force a decisive fifth game.

The game remained close but Converse finally prevailed at home with an extended 20-18 fifth.

Junior Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) had 14 kills for St. Andrews while freshman Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) chipped in with 11 kills, seven digs, and five blocks. Lemieux and freshman Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) each had 12 digs while junior libero Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) scooped 21 digs.
