2006 CVAC Volleyball Tournament Bracket

LAURINBURG, N.C.—Senior middle blocker Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 12 kills, 12 digs, and six blocks as No. 6 seed St. Andrews Presbyterian College defeated No. 11 seed Belmont Abbey College 3-1 (30-14, 25-30, 30-20, 30-22) in the first round of the 2006 CVAC Volleyball Tournament in Harris Court Monday.

The Lady Knights, who are guaranteed to finish the 2006 season with a .500 or better record, improved to 19-18 overall. The Crusaders end the season 3-23.

St. Andrews advances to the quarterfinals of the CVAC Tournament against No. 3 seed Converse College. The All Stars are hosting the remainder of the tourney in Spartanburg, S.C. Tickets are $5 per day.

The Knights started the match on fire posting four different rallies of at least four points in the opening game in route to the 30-14 victory. SAPC looked to be in great shape in the second taking a 13-6 lead, but a 14-3 run by the Abbey gave the Crusaders a 20-17 advantage. BAC held onto the lead and tied the match at one apiece with the 30-25 win.

Trailing 11-9 in the third, St. Andrews won 21 of the final 32 points to take control of the match. The Lady Knights maintained the momentum from the 10-point win in the third set into the fourth frame. Freshman Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) put away the match at 30-22 with a kill for SAPC.

The junior outside hitter tandem of Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) and Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) provided nine kills apiece for the Lady Knights while Podolsky spiked eight. Stansbury also had 12 digs while Lemieux made 10 digs.

Senior setter Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) had 37 assist and junior libero Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) scooped up 18 digs.

Junior Ashley Ringlein (Taylors, S.C.) led the Crusaders with 11 kills while sophomore Monica Halligan (Yuma, Ariz.) provided a match-high 34 digs. Junior Asleigh Oxtoby (Rochester, Ill.) and senior Latoya Gordon (Clinton, Md.) teamed up for 13 and 12 blocks, respectively. Sophomore Sawyer Coble (North Platte, Neb.) added 21 assists and two aces while classmate Carrie Markham (Phoenix, Ariz.) made 17 digs.
