St. Andrews volleyball sweeps Belmont Abbey

LAURINBURG, N.C.—Senior setter Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) served up a season-high nine aces to go along with her 33 assists and 12 digs as host St. Andrews Presbyterian College swept Belmont Abbey 3-0 (30-15, 30-16, 30-24) in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball action Tuesday night in Harris Court.

The Lady Knights, winners of six of their last eight, improved to 18-16 overall and 11-7 in the CVAC. The Abbey fell to 3-20 overall and 0-18 in the league.

Senior Lauren McManus (Raleigh, N.C.) led the St. Andrews attack with a team-high eight kills. Classmate Jesi Bewley’s (Cincinnati, Ohio) .417 hitting percentage on five kills and no errors helped SAPC to a .189 total as a team. Freshman Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) ripped seven kills and sophomore Elizabeth Windham (Wartrace, Tenn.) had six.

Freshman Tyler Lee (Hillsborough, N.C.), Bewley, and Podolsky all had two blocks apiece.

Junior Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) had a match-high 18 digs while freshman Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) contributed with four aces and four digs.

Sophomore Sydney Steffen (Davenport, Iowa) led the Crusaders with 12 digs, four kills, and two aces. Sophomore Emily Becher (Kernersville, N.C.) and senior Latoya Gordon (Clinton, Md.) spike six and five kills, respectively. Gordon also had a match-high five blocks. Sophomore Monica Halligan (Yuma, Ariz.) scooped up 17 digs while sophomore Sawyer Coble (North Platte, Neb.) supplied 19 assists.

St. Andrews hosts CVAC rival Limestone College on Friday, October 27 on the Lady Knights ‘Senior Day’. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. while St. Andrews entertains CVAC foe Anderson University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in their regular season finale.
