HARTSVILLE, S.C.—Junior outside hitter Lindsay Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) blasted a season-high 32 kills as the St. Andrews volleyball team overcame an 0-2 deficit by rallying for a 3-2 (27-30, 29-31, 30-28, 30-28, 16-14) CVAC volleyball victory at rival and No. 10 Atlantic Region ranked Coker College Wednesday.
The Lady Knights, winners of three straight conference matches, improved to 16-15 overall and 9-6 in the CVAC. After splitting five-game matches on back-to-back nights, the Lady Cobras maintain a 13-11 overall and 11-5 league ledger.
Coker looked to be on the track to victory early in the match as they defeated the Knights 30-27 in game one and 31-29 in game two, but then the Cobra victory train was derailed but the Knights. St. Andrews used Coker's errors and hard play to win the next two games with scores of 30-28 and 30-28, sending the match to a decisive fifth game.
In the fifth game, it was a back and forth battle before the game was tied at 14 points each. Then after a few Coker errors, it was the Knights riding off to victory.
Stansbury added 24 digs to go along with her impressive 32 kills. Senior middle blocker Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior outside hitter Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) had 13 and 10 kills respectively, while Bewley also had five blocks and Lemieux had five aces. Senior setter Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) gave the Knights 58 assists in the match.
Leading Coker was Margaret Madison with 24 kills and nine blocks, while Megan Haupt netted 18 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Tara Nelson had 53 assists in the match and Kelsey Carlson had 26 digs.
Coker's next match is on Saturday, October 21, as they travel to Lees-McRae at 3:00 p.m. St. Andrews next match is also at Lees-McRae, but on Friday, October 20, at 7:00 p.m.
