October 16, 2006

LAURINBURG, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College hit .282 as a team and senior Lauren McManus (Raleigh, N.C.) led the way with a .571 hitting percentage in a 30-25, 30-23, 30-11 sweep of visiting Queens University of Charlotte in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball action in Harris Court Monday.

All 12 Lady Knights contributed to the victory helping level SAPC’s overall record at 15-15 and increasing their CVAC mark to 8-6. The Royals fell to 1-22 and 1-15.

St. Andrews pulled out to a 23-13 lead in the first game before Queens went on an 8-1 run to pull within three at 24-21. However, the Knights stayed ahead and a senior Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) kill ended the first at 30-25.

Once again the Lady Knights grabbed a healthy lead to start the second frame at 13-5 but the Royals whittled away at the lead and closed in at 25-23. But SAPC once again remained poised and a sophomore Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho) service ace capped a 5-0 run to finish the second at 30-23.

With the commanding 2-0 lead, St. Andrews came out firing with their best game in the third. The Knights finished off Queens with a 14-1 run that included 11 straight points on serves from junior Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.).

The 30-11 win in the third game gave the Knights a season sweep over the Royals.

Junior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) had a match-high 14 kills to lead St. Andrews offensively. McManus totaled nine kills and only one error in route to her staggering hitting percentage. Bewley and sophomore Liz Windham (Wartrace, Tenn.) followed with eight kills apiece.

Junior Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) extended her 20-plus digs streak to nine matches after making 24. Senior Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) provided 40 assists while freshman Chelsea Lavalleur (Greensboro, N.C.) served up a match-high four aces.
