Knights split tri-match at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C.—Sophomore hitter Liz Windham (Wartrace, Tenn.) had a season-high nine kills as the St. Andrews volleyball team rebounded from a 3-1 (30-18, 25-30, 30-10, 30-24) loss to host Wingate, with a 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-26) victory over Fayetteville State later Saturday in Cuddy Arena on the campus of Wingate.

St. Andrews maintains an 11-10 overall record after Saturday afternoons split. The Knights once again travel for another tri-match on Saturday, September 30. At 11:00 a.m., SAPC battles CVAC leading Limestone College in conference play. The Knights finish play in Gaffney, S.C., with a non-conference match against Augusta State at 3:00 p.m.

Wingate 3 (30, 25, 30, 30) def. St. Andrews 1 (18, 30, 10, 24)

Senior middle blocker Molly Kerns (Bellefontaine, Ohio) hit a blazing .700 against the Knights with 15 kills and only one error in 20 total attacks to lead Wingate (13-4) to the four-game victory. Freshman outside hitter Jacki Emmenecker (Perrysburg, Ohio) contributed 12 kills to the Lady Bulldog offense.

St. Andrews won game two 30-18 to knot things up at one game each. Knight junior outside hitter Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) had five kills for the visitors in game two. Lemieux led the SAPC offense with 13 kills against Wingate.
 
The Bulldogs rallied in game three to take a 30-10 victory. Wingate hit .565 in the third game. Senior middle blocker Rebecca Brezovec (Durham, N.C.) had a big third game for the hosts. A first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® in 2005, Brezovec had five kills in the third frame.
 
Kerns did the most damage in game four, recording 10 of her match-high 15 kills. Kerns had 10 kills in 11 total attacks as the Bulldogs won the fourth game 30-24. Wingate hit .351 in game four to finish the match with a .336 hitting percentage.

For St. Andrews, junior libero Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) led all players with 17 digs. In addition to her 13 kills, Lemieux had four total blocks (one block solo, three block assists). Senior Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) had 34 assists and 14 digs.

St. Andrews Presbyterian College players hit .142 as the Knights picked up a 3-0 win over nearby rival Fayetteville State University. SAPC senior middle blocker Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 11 kills on 20 total attacks. Windham followed with her season-high nine kills.
 
Haugen was all over the court, recording 17 digs for the victors. Harper had 20 assists, while freshman setter Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) came off the bench to put in a solid performance. Hayes had 18 assists, three digs and two kills.
 
The Broncos were led by senior outside hitter Mia Eubanks (Minneapolis, Minn.), who recorded nine kills. Eubanks added nine digs for Fayetteville State. Veney put in another good effort for FSU, sharing team-high honors with 17 digs. Bronco sophomore defensive specialist Shayla Watson (Kansas City, Mo.) also notched 17 digs for FSU.
