BELMONT, N.C.—Freshman Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) and senior Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) blasted .571 and .474 hitting percentages, respectively, from the middle blocker positions to lead visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College to an easy 3-0 (30-14, 30-16, 30-25) Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball victory over Belmont Abbey on Tuesday in the Wheeler Center.
Belmont Abbey sophomore outside hitter Sydney Steffen and senior outside hitter Clarissa Stull both led the Crusaders with six kills each, but the Abbey was undone by 33 attacking errors as St. Andrews swept the Abbey. SAPC improved its record to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the CVAC, while the Crusaders fall to 3-8 and 0-6 in the league.
Along with Podolsky and Bewley, junior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) also recorded nine kills for the Lady Knights. Podolsky was on fire for the match, hitting a blistering .571, posting just one error on 14 total attacks as the Lady Knights hit .177 for the match (38 kills, 18 errors on 113 total attacks). Bewley followed with a .474 hitting percentage and zero errors on 19 attempts.
Junior libero Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) had 18 digs and senior setter Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) had 26 assists to lead all specialists.
Along with her six kills, Steffen led the team with 14 kills and sophomore libero Monica Halligan added 11. Setter Sawyer Coble added nine to go along with 19 assists. Stull tallied six kills as the Abbey finished the match with a -.059 team attack (26 kills, 33 errors on 118 total attacks).
St. Andrews hosts CVAC rival Coker College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
