LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) spiked a game-high 15 kills and classmate Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) scooped up a game-high 26 digs to lead the St. Andrews Presbyterian College volleyball team to a 3-0 (31-29, 30-12, 30-25) CVAC victory over Mount Olive College Wednesday on Harris Court.
The Lady Knights, who have won three straight matches, improved to 9-7 overall and 3-0 in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference. The Lady Trojans fell to 3-6 and 2-3.
Mount Olive started out strong maintaining a slim lead throughout most of the first game including as late as 27-25. However, St. Andrews hung around and catapulted into a 29-27 lead with four straight points. The Lady Trojans held off game point twice before the Knights squeaked out a 31-29 victory.
After the come-from-behind win, St. Andrews maintained the momentum with its best set rolling to a 30-12 win and a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match. The Knights posted 10 straight points midway through the second frame.
MOC looked to break through early in the third taking a 12-5 lead, but a 16-5 run propelled the Knights back into the lead at 21-17. The Lady Trojans knotted everything at 24-24 before SAPC pulled away with a 6-1 run to take the decisive game, 30-25.
Stansbury added 10 digs, three service aces, and two block-assists to go with her 15 kills. Junior Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) drilled 13 kills.
Senior Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) provided 34 assists, 11 digs, six kills (.667 hitting percentage), and two block assists. Senior Lauren McManus (Raleigh, N.C.) served up four aces and made nine digs.
Freshman Joanie Werling (Purcelleville, Va.) led the Lady Trojans with 14 assists and five blocks. Junior Sam Mitchell (Boyd, Wis.) and freshman Alicia Mote (Miami, Fla.) totaled nine kills apiece while senior Nikki Murphy (Marshfield, Wis.) and sophomore Mallory Peavler (Loda, Ill.) each made eight digs. Freshman Heather Pope (Pensacola, Fla.) added four aces and sophomore Corie Skislak (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) had four blocks.
The Knights host CVAC rival Converse College on Friday at 7:00 p.m.; while Mount Olive hosts CVAC foe Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
