September 5, 2006

LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior outside hitter Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) led a strong St. Andrews attack with nine kills and a .304 hitting percentage as the Knights defeated Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference foe Barton College 3-0 (30-17, 30-26, 30-25) on Tuesday in Harris Court.

The Lady Knights evened their overall record to 5-5 and start out 1-0 in CVAC play; while the Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league.

St Andrews came out firing and led for majority of the evening. After dropping the first point of the contest, SAPC led for the rest of the first game in route to a 30-17 win. A freshman Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) kill finished off the first giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage.

In the closest game of the evening, Barton rattled off six straight points midway through the second to take a 17-13 lead. However, St. Andrews quickly erased the deficit and with sophomore Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho) serving, posted six consecutive points to take the lead for good. BC held strong forcing five game points but a serve sailed long to end the rally giving SAPC a 30-26 win.

St. Andrews continued the strong play and provided the Knights fans with their first home victory with a 30-25 victory in the third game.

Lemieux added nine digs to go along with her nine kills. Podolsky followed with seven kills while senior Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) each spiked six apiece.

Senior setter Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) chipped in with 20 assists and nine digs. Junior libero Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) scooped up 16 digs while Ghramm and freshman Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) made six digs apiece. Both Bewley and Stansbury had three block assists and Hayes also blasted three aces.

Senior setter Hallie Fuller (Annapolis, Md.) led the Lady Bulldogs with 31 assists and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Kyle Petty (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) provided 11 digs and three aces while classmate Tanika Jones (Deep Run, N.C.) blocked two attempts. Senior Keauna Vinson (Zebulon, N.C.) and junior Michelle Walker (Benson, N.C.) ripped 14 and 13 kills, respectively.
