Knights volleyball sweeps season series over Queens

October 24, 2005

CHARLOTTE, NCJunior setter Kim Harper had 38 assists and 13 digs to lead the St. Andrews volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-20, 30-26, 21-30, 30-17) Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over Queens University of Charlotte Monday.

The Knights, who have steadily been improving as the season progresses, improved to 3-21 overall and 3-14 in the CVAC while the Royals fell to 0-24 and 0-17.

“We played well with high intensity for most of the match,” said first year head coach Dan Kreiger. “When we controlled the ball, we were able to score a lot of points. We played much smarter today than we have in other matches.”

Junior middle blocker Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, OH) had a double-double with 19 kills, 11 digs, and three blocks. Junior libero Erin Haugen (Ft. Mills, SC) scooped up a team-high 23 digs while sophomore Allison Hendrix (Hickory, NC) made 15. Junior Lauren McManus (Raleigh, NC) posted 13 digs, nine kills, and four service aces. Freshman Dani Ghramm (Hayden, ID) spiked 12 kills and Hendrix and Ghramm each served up two aces apiece.

The Knights will go for two straight when they host CVAC rival Belmont Abbey on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Crusaders squeaked out a 3-2 win over St. Andrews earlier in the year.
