LAURINBURG, NC— St. Andrews almost completed the comeback on Limestone, losing a close 3-2 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball showdown by 30-25, 28-30, 30-18, 29-31, 15-11 scores on Harris Court Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Saints rallied from behind in the fifth game to improve to 12-10 overall and 6-7 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 1-15 and 1-9.

St. Andrews stayed close to Limestone in most of the first but a late surge by the Saints, including four points on Amber Wise serves, powered LC to the 30-25 win.

The Saints looked ready to take the commanding lead in the match with a late 28-26 lead in the second, but the Knights forced a side out and scored three straight points on Kim Harper servers to tie the match at one apiece.

Limestone answered with a powerful third game, cruising in quick third game and taking the one-game advantage.

However, the Knights answered by winning with the closest game of the match. Just like the second, St. Andrews found themselves down late. The Saints held a 29-26 lead at game-point, but the Knights scored five of the last six points to cause a fifth game.

St. Andrews maintained the momentum to start the short fifth with an 8-3 lead, but the Saints rallied with seven of the next eight points to take a 10-9 advantage. Limestone won the final three points on Lynn Milam serves to escape with the five-game victory.

Wise led the Lady Saints with 19 kills and four aces. Samantha Flannery had 12 kills, three solo blocks, and four block assists. Michelle Cash added 11 digs and four blocks. Libero Julie Oleson made 35 digs and delivered four aces. Setter Alison Hamilton chipped in with 40 assists and 23 digs.

Jesi Bewley led the Knights with a .241 hitting percentage, 19 kills, 14 digs, and three aces. Harper had 40 assists, 14 digs, six kills and two aces. Libero Erin Haugen scooped up 35 digs while Lauren McManus had 15 digs and 11 kills. Dani Ghramm spiked 12 kills.
