WILSON, NC—Barton College started strong and never looked back Wednesday night in defeating a St. Andrews Presbyterian College team that was ending a long six-game road trip. The Lady Bulldogs won the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball match in three games (30-22, 30-20, 30-19).
Barton improved to 6-15 overall and 5-6 in the CVAC, while St. Andrews dropped to 1-11 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Senior libero Laurie Alpert paced the Lady Bulldogs with 17 digs. Robin McArthur served three aces, while Kari Poling chipped in two of her own. Keauna Vinson had 18 kills and 10 digs and four solo blocks. Jo Denevan added eight kills for Barton.
Junior hitter Jesi Bewley led the visiting Knights with 14 kills, seven digs and two assists. Junior setter Kim Harper had 26 assists, six digs and two aces. Sophomore libero Erin Haugen tallied 11 digs for St. Andrews. Junior Lauren McManus and freshman Dani Ghramm each had 10 digs. McManus and Ghramm had eight and seven kills, respectively.
The Knights return to Laurinburg for their first home game in 26 days, when they host CVAC rival Coker at 6:30 p.m.
