Saints down St. Andrews netters, 3-1

GAFFNEY, SCThe Limestone volleyball team won its third straight match defeating visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference action Saturday. The Lady Saints (8-7 overall, 4-4 CVAC) beat the Knights (1-9, 1-4) by a match score of 3-1 (30-17, 30-25, 27-30, 30-20).

The Lady Saints convincingly won the first two games. Limestone was ahead by seven early on in game three, but St. Andrews climbed back to tie the score at 19. The Lady Saints regained the lead by 2, but once again, the Knights evened the score at 28. St. Andrews won the next two points with the serve to win the game, and stay alive in the match. 

The deciding fourth game was another battle. Both teams traded points to lock the score at nine apiece.  From there, Limestone won 13 of the next 16 points to open up the game with a 10-point lead (22-12). The Knights and Lady Saints continued to trade points, but Limestone was able to maintain their 10-point advantage, winning the game 30-20.

Junior’s Kim Harper (Boca Raton, FL), Jesi Bewley (Cincinnati, OH) and Lauren McManus (Raleigh, NC) provided the top stats for the Knights. Harper led St. Andrews with 29 digs and 29 assists; Bewley spiked 18 kills, scooped up 16 digs, and stuffed two blocks; McManus posted 15 digs and eight kills.

Freshman Dani Ghramm (Hayden, ID) added 16 digs and nine kills while freshman Liz Windham (Wartrace, TN) provided 20 digs for SAPC.

Several Lady Saints contributed great stats throughout the match. “Meredith Overton had one of her best games of the year,” said Head Coach Tim Loesch.  She recorded 24 kills, 15 digs, and two service aces. Julie Oleson came up big with 26 digs. “I am very proud of Julie. She did a great job on defense, and had terrific serve reception.”  Oleson received 25 serves with only one error.

Alison Hamilton served 4 aces, and recorded 44 assists. Amber Wise had 15 kills and 14 digs; Michelle Cash recorded 7 blocks.

The Knights enter visit CVAC rival Converse College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
