September 8, 2005

LAURINBURG, NC—Junior middle hitter Jesi Bewley’s (Cincinatti, OH) .408 hitting percentage was not enough for the St. Andrews volleyball team as visiting UNC Pembroke defeated the Knights 3-1 (30-16, 30-26, 16-30, 30-25) Thursday on Harris Court.

The Braves (3-6) jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the first game and coasted to the 30-16 win.

Pembroke once again grabbed a quick advantage in the second, 9-3, but the Knights tied everything at 14-14 with an 11-5 run. St. Andrews pulled out to a 21-18 lead but a UNCP timeout gave the Braves the momentum to finish the game with a 12-5 run and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The Knights (1-5) would not go quietly and won a dominating third by 14 points.

The Braves rebounded by building a 13-7 lead in the fourth that they would never relinquish. SAPC got to within three, 24-21, but Pembroke held on for the 30-25 victory and its third win of the season.
